there’s a post going around that says something like “peridot learned about fusion because she’s shipping trash!!” and this has severely gotten on my nerves and let me tell you why
it is really really easy to tell that Peridot hasn’t had any experience with love or friendship before her time with the Crystal Gems. She is super curious, though, and absolutely wants to learn as much as she can about the earth and the gems
(in fact, she’s probably really uncomfortable with how little information she has- “I know nothing without my screen”)
though her efforts to understand are strange to the Gems (and Greg), she is trying. she’s trying really hard.
Garnet is able to see that she’s trying to understand. Garnet is willing to meet her halfway, to help her learn. So what does Garnet do? She references the only example of love that Peridot has ever witnessed: a television show.
so it’s a lot more than learning about fusion “because she’s shipping.” It’s Garnet being able to explain new things to Peridot in a way that she can understand and relate to. It’s being willing to meet each other halfway, rather than put all the pressure on Peridot to understand right away.
