The Census Bureau proposed changes to the disability questions in the American Community Survey that will have a negative impact on the data

So the US government is trying to redefine what disability means on the new US cenus and it would cut what qualifies as a disability significantly. If this happens, it will further limit access and funding for necessary disability services. This will impact millions. The government is accepting feedback on the census changes. This link allows you to send an email (already written but you can add what you'd like) explaining why this is not acceptable.

It takes less than a minute and all you need is your email, name, and city. Please do this if you're in the US. This could harm millions of disabled Americans.

It's getting to the point where people online are acting like talking about literally anything else but Gaza is wrong, and it's quickly turning into not giving a shit about the problems anyone else in any part of the globe is facing.

Here's an example:

Here's a post from Michelle Obama talking about going to Malawi and South Africa and advocating for the rights of girls, especially those who become child brides. In the screenshot above, you can see a snippet of this girl saying she got married and pregnant at age 12, and is 9 months pregnant in the video.

What do the first comments I saw look like?

None of them (and trust me, if you scroll it doesn't stop there) give a single fuck about girls in African countries who are married and raped by adult men. The third comment accuses Michelle Obama of "selective feminism" but how is it not selective to immediately become unhinged in a post that's about girls who aren't affected by your pet political issue? The issues on the rest of the planet don't stop because one area of the globe is in crisis. People all over always need help.

But this helps no one. The first comment is accusing her of trying to maintain her image, but that's exactly what these people are doing. By screaming on every social media post, they're making everyone see how Good and Righteous they are--as they downplay the importance of women's rights literally anywhere else on earth, because again, it's all about their image, they don't care about anyone and they definitely didn't care about people in Gaza before social media told them to, either. It's all so phony, and I promise that when this eventually fades from the news, they'll go back to being just as uninterested in Gaza and anyone but themselves as they were before October 2023

The absolute egoism of so many of the people saying "there's a genocide happening and you're silent" or even just "ceasefire" is insane. They expect us to automatically know the place they're talking about is Gaza, as if it's the only part of the world with anything bad happening? Then they literally speak over people talking about actual genocides that are ongoing in other countries? They say "silence is complicity" while not saying a word about the worst humanitarian disasters that are, again, still ongoing, and that are receiving far less coverage, aid, and support? It's such an unimaginably toxic and dangerous form of "activism".

Floored by the number of (hopefully) young people who are like “how can you talk about anything else when there’s a genocide happening RIGHT NOW.” I’d ask you to be more specific but I know that you honestly think that there’s only one atrocity worthy of being discussed in the world and not like a dozen different horrific things happening every single day for decades on end. If I was crass i would call it “baby’s first genocide.” And honestly I’m too tired not to be crass. Every newscast I’ve listened to for the past two years started with the words, “Day such-and-such of full-out war.” That war is still ongoing and still affecting me and mine, and when I see you so called progressives beginning to stan for putin and the like I want to throw up. You have no idea what you’re talking about and luckily you’ll never have to. You might be stupid enough to indiscriminately cheer on anyone who’s against the western hEgEmOnY but you’re sure smart enough not to leave your cushy privileged western lives.

So when you lose your shit and rage at others not performing online activism to your standards, invariably without posting ANY links to actual fucking organizations helping people on the ground, all I can do is roll my eyes. You can be an adult and learn to manage your emotions and help where you can, or you can post empty slogans that do fuck all to help (and frequently do damage) and feel good about yourselves.

Anyway, here’s a Russian charity that deserves some help: https://ncsos.io. They help queers get out of particularly anti queer parts of Russia, and I think they can no longer accept donations from within Russia because LGBT has joined instagram on the truly unhinged list of “terrorist” organizations.
