imo the most tragic bit about stsg is the fact that losing geto actually makes gojo into a better person, in the way that it "humbles" him somehow. like I'm sure if geto didn't turn out how he did gojo would have never started to care about something else regarding to jujutsu that wasn't his own power, he would have never become a teacher, etc etc. it's losing his one and only what pushes him to try to prevent what happened to geto (and therefore, what happened to him) from happening to anyone else. on the other hand, the key to geto's breakdown is gojo not being there for him. the fact that gojo doesn't seem to care about the same things he does, doesn't seem to be able to see the real corruption in the world, doesn't seem to be able to see past his own power (and by extension, geto's, aka we're the strongest). it's an eternal paradox, geto would have never broken down if gojo had been there for him but it necessarily took geto leaving, gojo losing what's most important to him, for him to finally be able to become the kind of person that could've been there for geto.
