Can I talk more about that second gif for a second, and by talk I mean cry, because:
Lan Wangji, Hanguang-jun, living legend and most accomplished cultivator of his generation, is smart (most times). Even if he had never seen it before, he knows the ticking time bomb that is the revenge curse under which Wei Wuxian is. He knows enough, understands enough about the rules of cultivation and the magic they use to figure it out.
As miraculous as his Wei Ying’s return is, as elated and happy beyond belief that made him, Wangji knows its price. He knows it could all be taken away from him if they don’t accomplish Mo Xuanyu’s revenge in time. He knows he could lose Wei Ying again, and he barely survived with his sanity intact the first time, what would this second loss do to him? How cruel would it be?
He probably doesn’t dwell on that too much because that may just be the most terrifying thought to him and trying to keep Wei Wuxian alive is a full-time job, curse or not and he’s determined to dot on Wei Wuxian and make the most of their time together regardless, but. The lingering fear. It’s always there.
And as their search progresses, he sees Wei Wuxian faint. He sees him bleed.
He knows they’re slowly but surely running out of time. And if Wei Wuxian is bleeding, then maybe not so slowly. In a minute he’ll learn that Wei Wuxian doesn’t even have a golden core anymore and how does that factor into the whole equation? How can that not make it worse?
So, um. Imagine his relief when he sees the mark on Wei Wuxian’s arm disappear after Jin Guangyao’s death. Imagine him realizing that Wei Wuxian is as safe as he’s going to be and that they have time, again. That Wei Ying has truly, fully returned to him.
tl;dr: Wei Wuxian better appreciate his man because Lan Wangji has had an emotional rollercoaster of a few months.
