seattle’s world cup hosting comittee (seperate from fifa itself) decided to designate seattle’s june 26 game the pride match bc it’s pride weekend in seattle. after this decision was already made, egypt and iran happened to draw this match. officials from these countries got super worked up about this because they are both very homophobic societies. no players or anyone on the field will be forced to acknowledge that this is a pride match, it’s just a thing that seattle is doing. iran and egypt officials are trying to get fifa to ban pride flags at the stadium but fortunately fifa has so far refused.

some misconceptions i’ve seen is that this was “pinkwashing” (which is crazy, countries that actually hate gay people that bad would never “pinkwash”) or an intentional troll aimed at the countries involved. neither of these are true bc like i said, the pride match was CHOSEN BEFOREHAND.

anyone who has a problem with seattle sticking to their guns on this needs to remember that at the qatar world cup, lgbt fans had to hide their identities to respect the “local traditions” there, so it’s only fair that others respect our acceptance of homosexuality. we could go further in pushing our local culture, they’re lucky we aren’t making them listen to grunge music or put cream cheese on hot dogs.

seattle has much more noble claims to culinary fame, such as introducing teriyaki to the mainland united states and creating the dutch baby pancake. i just thought seattle dogs would be funnier to mention.

Started rewatching season 1 after finishing season 2.

Watching Hank pick Lucy over pregnant Steph and three others when Moldaver demands he pick before bombing the vault... well it hits in very different way with the new knowledge we have.

So I read the title wrong for the longest time when mutuals were talking about/reblogging Steven Universe way back 5+ years ago and I thought it was Steven's Universe.

Anyways because I read it wrong and generally wasn't paying attention I was under the impression this was just a show where it was a little boy playing with rocks and making up stories about them. Whoops.

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

So obvious answer is us since we've had more time. But let's throw that away for a moment.

The more exciting thing to consider is that it was probably us because their media and communications were so much more limited and controlled. They probably had more in common with Spirk shippers trading zines than us posting to ao3.

But now I have so many follow up questions about fandom in the capitol like:

Was OC shipping the norm because of there only being one living tribute until everlark?

Was a "made for tv" movie in the works for everlark? Did these exist for past tributes?

Was Snow aware of the fanfic? Maybe he was if certain people wanted to buy Victors to reenact fic. But if he was, did he have a secret stash of Lucy Gray fanfic?

you know what pisses me tf off? the concept of the quarter quell. yes it's terrible and morbid to make a special edition of what already is an oppression ritual but that's not it. it's the idea of a quarter quell, every quarter of a century, the assumption that the games would go on so long and end up being so numerous that you would need to tell them apart with some extra title. even the special editions. that the status quo would continue as it was, and they would just keep killing children every single year and inventing new atrocious ways to do so. it's disgusting

This made me think about how there are disasters thay delineate a generation because kids saw it on tv as a kid or had it impact their childhood in some way.

Gen x remembers the Columbia space shuttle disaster, millenials remember 9/11, gen z remembers the COVID pandemic.

It makes me think (headcanon?) that Panem has "gen vote" and "gen doubled" and "gen Victor" since these remarkable games would have been the spectacle and horror that different generations of Panem people would remember.
