in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
My understanding is that the cut funding from Durham council was £2,500 - the trade union donations raised in response were worth £25,000
i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.
I called over there for a reference, left word with some snooty girl. Next thing you know, I got a fax from Miranda Priestly herself… saying that of all the assistants she's ever had… you were, by far, her biggest disappointment. And, if I don't hire you, I am an idiot. You must have done something right.

This is a perfect time to read the brilliant and unforgettable graphic novel(s) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, about growing up in Iran during and after the Iranian Revolution, and the rise of the oppressive theocracy that persists to this day.
Both graphic novels are available free online (Persepolis vol. 1, Persepolis vol. 2)
It also was adapted to a wonderful film (co-directed and co-written by the author) which is available to watch for free on Sundance Now (sign up for the free trial)

Man: A cop is cop (interviewer says something that I can't make out) and you know yeah and he may be a very nice man. I haven't got the time to figure that out. All I know is he's got a uniform and a gun, you know, and I have to relate to him in that way. That's the only way to relate to him, at all. Because one of us is gonna-- one of us may have to die.
Interviewer : You know in new york there's a big campaign going on to humanize the policeman and they have billboards upstate. And they have a picture of a big cop bending over this little blonde girl, and and the signs say "some people call him pig" and I wanted to buy billboard, I told a friend of mine "I want to buy a billboard and show this big cop and this 14 year old kid with thirty bullets in him and say 'some people call him peace-maker.' "

oh wait just realized i can edit my own posts.
like you can't edit reblogs anymore but you can still edit your own post even after it has a thousand notes or whatever.
i have the opportunity to do the funniest thing.
Putting the term "male gaze" on top of the fridge until everyone remembers that it refers to a cinematographic trend and not the act of looking at things while being a man
reaching up to get it off of the fridge and the big tshirt im wearing as pyjamas rides up and the reader sees my panties

i could not eat a dozen fried eggs and would never want to do so. but i almost certainly could accidentally eat a dozen deviled eggs if i was at a party or perhaps a picnic and they were there. they are a highly dangerous food item in this way
The devil's greatest trick was convincing the world he doesn't exist. His second greatest trick was that egg thing hoo boy those are good
I just want you all to know i am planning to drive across the country to steal this street sign and hang it over my toilet
Dont announced your crimes over unsecured channels dumbass
I've spent the past month cooped up in a motel in Orange County planning my theft, before I steal the sign I will set off a cache of fireworks I've placed 5 blocks away from the nearest police station which will rain down on the pigs, the perfect diversion.
