the club moss I got for my terrarium is dying, despite being lovingly packed into organic soil with oven-fried leaf litter and bioactive springtails and isopods, and meanwhile in my fridge my fuck ass onions are sending out bright green shoots as happy as could be in their cold dark box of fucking nothing
we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
when I’m checking out at the register and the cashier is clearly having a horrible day, I feel like I am under so much pressure to speak soooo gently and pleasantly. like I am handling a skittish and traumatized horse. here I am offering my credit card so efficiently. here is an apple from my palm
phone in bed can range from comforting to mundane but phone in parked car will have you feeling like you've never done anything right in your entire life
if everyone wouldn't mind getting normal about mobile homes immediately that would be awesome, because it's bonkers to me how much stigma still exists around them
if you live in a rural community, chances are extremely high that you or a friend or family member lives in a mobile home. it doesn't just make sense from an affordability perspective, but also from a logistical one. dragging a full construction crew out to a rural piece of land every single day to complete construction on a home from scratch is just impractical. but mobile homes allow people living in rural areas to just stick a house wherever they want!! it's a big part of the reason that they're everywhere around here!!
there are shitty and run down looking mobile homes, yes, but there are also super cute and nice ones! just like their are shitty run down apartments and houses and also cute and nice ones!!! you could be driving past a mobile home and not even realize it!!! it's bizarre to see people turn their noses up at an extremely affordable and convenient housing option because of all the classist stank folks have left on them. it's literally just a type of dwelling!!!
I will be the person to point out that there are shitty and rundown looking brick and mortar homes too and mobile homes don't need to look cute for their residents to deserve respect and dignity. The stigma around mobile homes isn't bad just because there are a lot of nice ones, it's bad because it's based around classism and it leaves a lot of communities without any real recognition or support because no one wants to be associated with "trailer park trash."
Also if you want to support mobile homes and fight against stigma, put pressure on your local representatives to pass laws requiring mobile home parks to have accessible and safe tornado shelters for residents. The majority of at-home tornado fatalities occur in mobile homes; residents are very aware that their homes aren't safe, but parks almost never have adequate shelters and most of them are far enough from nearby towns that there's no time to pack up the family and pets and try to get to a local shelter.
I did once when I was working in a coffee shop. He was on a business call loudly talking about some tech speculation. When I asked him how it went a few days later, he panicked and asked how I knew such sensitive information. From this I gather they are of weak constitution, and startle easily
Absolutely love how emotionally aware my child is for a 4 and a half year old do not however love stubbing my toe on the island for the 100th time today and hearing "hey mama it's okay to cry! It's not okay to throw a fit though, and we hafta re-...we have to reconitize the difference"
When I immediately say "oh no thanks" to a food she offers me she says "oh mommy, chefs try new foods. Can you take one , two, bites for me and if you really don't like it then I won't ask forever again deal?"

FOOD HUBRIS BY COUNTRY
america: believes their shitty local burger chain is a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience because their mayo includes onion paste
canada: if your poutine tastes better than the styrofoam plate it comes on you will discover the cold rage that lies under the canadian's polite exterior
united kingdom: despite thriving and unique fusion cuisines spreading from the UK to the rest of the world in recent decades, when asked to think of 'british food' the average UK citizen will start a fight over whether cold beans with a modest side of white bread is haute cuisine
france: McDo Ortolan Bunting
italy: extremely mad about american versions of italian food. blissfully ignorant of what happens in brazil
brazil: if the scientific genius applied to making cronenbergian pizzas were applied to anything else, brazilians would all be commuting to jobs on the moon. They have pizza that can feel pain
russia: obviously mayonnaise is the perfect topping for all foodstuffs, this is solved. The question is what to put on top of mayonnaise, and it might never be answered
germany: less a joke than a fact: the single most produced numbered Volkswagen part is a standardized currywurst
