Belted Kingfisher I know you don’t care but you mean everything to me girl

For anyone who doesn’t know, the Belted Kingfisher is one of the only birds with sexual dimorphism where the species is named after the female bird’s plumage instead of the male’s. The female of the species sports that cool rust-colored belt while a male’s belly is plain.

This is a huge thing in birds where males get the vast majority of the attention since they often have more visually striking plumage. I personally think the female red-winged blackbird is the most commonly misidentified bird in North America because of this problem.

A side effect of this phenomenon is that a lot of the time bird art depicts only males, so I LOVE when I get to see belted kingfisher art and be like omg it’s her!!!

best depiction of the batfam will always be "You grew up to be the person who would have saved you" but it applies to them each respectively and that's why none of them can see eye to eye and also get up their own asses about things and go to such great lengths to defend their personal brand of justice. Because they can never stop trying to save themselves from their own history.

Bruce needed someone to seek justice for him. He needed the world to be fair, and someone to try to make it so. Batman will prioritize justice over all else.

Dick needed someone to care. He needed the assurance that he was part of a family and loved. Nightwing follows his emotions, even to the point of killing the Joker, and will do anything to protect his family.

Jason needed someone to protect him by any means necessary. He needed to be worth enough to kill for, and he needed something that assured him he was actually safe. Red Hood kills and will never stop killing, because that’s the protection he neeeed.

Tim needed someone to listen to him, to hear him out and then talk him down from his worst spirals. So Red Robin will always be there for Bruce, ready to talk him down, even after everything.

Steph needed someone to stand up for her and say “screw authority” to protect her from her father. Spoiler won’t accept authority or stay quiet because she knows that’s what screwed her over.

Damian needs someone to accept him and acknowledge him. I hope he’ll grow into the type of hero who can be this for others.
