neurotypicals saying to ADHD people "oh, but I get easily distracted sometimes too" is the equivalent of people without depression saying to people with depression "oh, but I get sad sometimes too"

the thing a lot of neurotypicals misunderstand is that hyperfixations aren’t just being interested in something or liking something a lot. it’s thinking about that thing every moment you’re awake, it’s how you get dopamine and a sense of happiness whenever you think about that thing.
and so of course your brain equates thinking about this character or this show or this book with happiness, so it won’t stop thinking about it. if it makes you happy, why not, right?
except it kind of sucks, at times, when you can’t think about anything else. when you accidentally skip a whole ass exam because you’re too busy thinking about it, or you zone out in the middle of a conversation because one (1) thing reminded you of it.
hyperfixations are great. but they also kind of suck.
hyperfixations have caused me to fail classes because they were all I could think about. they’re not just a fun quirky word to throw around

day two of quarantine: i disassociated for several hours after being triggered by tiktok... i want normal life back now, the joke is over
quick comic about a conversation my therapist said i should try having when im feeling bad (instead of isolating myself and using unhealthy coping mechanisms)
hozier singing toxic on this the 20th day of march in the 2020th year of our lordt
This was the funniest hour of my life
At the end of the panel we gave them a round of applause for being so brave in trying to write straights and cisgenders
Especially Jasika, who got very emotional about her childhood with straight parents
types of comments on this post:
-straight people saying :/ love is love :/ gay or straight why does it matter ://///
-gay people saying wait no really i’ve never written a non-lesbian pls help
-people pointing out that even straight people don’t know how to write straight people without unnecessary romance
the truly impressive part of this panel was how for an hour, a FULL hour, they talked about writing straight characters like the st8s talk about writing queer characters and they did. not. break. It was the most amazing piece of improv comedy i’ve ever seen.

My dad grew up during the polio epidemic and I think a component of this that a lot of the really cavalier younger ppl who are being like "haha boomers will be killed off" and continuing to party for spring break or whatever are missing (besides like... You ahould care about other people) is that
1. Plenty of healthy younger people are going to be hospitalized even if mostly older people die
2. If you get viral pneumonia that is not going to just go away. That will impact your life forever. Your lung function will be different after you reecover and thats best case. People who have pneumonia bad enough they need to be hospitalized do not return to being Healthies afterwards. You will be chronically ill.
3. Thats not even getting into how many common autoimmune problems are triggered by viral outbreaks.
The consequences will not be the same as polio (paralysis etc) but there will be a lot of new disabled people! There will still be consequences. Even if your demographic is unlikely to die your life could be changed forever PLEASE STOP PARTYING i know very few ppl reading this are actually the ppl being dismissive and cruel about this but Im just very frustrated and had to write something. Diseases like... Change people. Your lungs! Will not! Be the same!!!

Most of us with things like ME/CFS, it all started with getting sick that one time, and we just never seemed to recover. A bad bout of flu or some other virus or infection that just never went away. And it’s not something you can power through or exercise out of your body with fitness regimes and healthy eating. There’s no bounce back. There’s no magic pill. It’s permanent. And yes, you will miss having full lung capacity.
And I’m not saying this to incite panic, but to rather let you all in on the secret that everyone with a disability already knows: no one is immune to disability. Do not put yourselves needlessly at risk. Stay indoors and practice social distancing. Please, for the love of humanity, if you won’t do it for others, do it for yourselves.
Instead of telling disabled kids “you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it,” I think we should tell them, “the things you are capable of doing matter.”
A person can’t live on an increasingly strained hope that someday they’ll be good enough, especially if all you ever do is tell them who they are and what they do now is worthless.
I’m not going back alone. No, there’s something you should know. I came to take her home.

THEY JUST KEEP JUMPING ON THE COUNTER. AND CRAWLING UP HER LEG. THIS IS THE GREATEST PROBLEM YOU COULD EVER HAVE
This is both adorable and stressful to watch. Damn it, kittens, be good! Food’s coming!
OH MY GOD SHE NAMED ONE OF HER CATS OBAMA
I love that kittens are gently placed on the ground… whereas adult cats, because they should know better (and are undoubtedly better at landing on their feet) are just… flung.
Oh my god I love this
I love that the kittens continue climbing her even after she steps away from the food - the goal is no longer ‘get to food’ it is ‘climb the human’!
UNDER SEIGE!!
Goals. Somewhat.
Just because you “function” doesn’t mean you don’t deserve help.
you deserve to be loved & talked nicely to
