Shout out to ALL nonbinary people who are considered "stereotypical", get little positivity, and every time their identity is mentioned, it's to remind other people they don't have to be like them.
"Nonbinary is not a third gender" for some people it is. "Nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny" but we're allowed to desire it. "Being nonbinary is a rebellion against gender roles" if it is for you, cool. But my gender is not a political movement and not everyone feels comfortable with statements like this.
Bonus: shout out to all alloaces, aroallos, and non-SAM aspecs. 99% of all content under asexual or aromantic tags is just aroace stuff
I know that HRT gives you secondary sex characteristics in one direction or another, but we HAVE to stop telling nonbinary people that they “can’t pick and choose.” Of course, you can’t tell your testosterone that you’d rather not grow chest hair, but there are things you can do!
You could go on T so your voice drops and start shaving so you don’t grow a beard. You could start HRT and then stop once you get the permanent changes you like. You can pursue sterilization instead of bottom surgery. You can get top surgery without being on T. You can go on E and work out a bunch to bulk out your muscles. You can pursue laser hair removal or electrolysis to remove unwanted hair, with or without HRT. You could even just start hormones to see if you like it and then stop if it isn’t to your taste.
Obviously, you can’t order secondary sex characteristics a la carte, but we have to stop being so awful to nonbinary people. We should discuss the options we have, not shut down the conversation with “that’s what you get.”
i took t until i got permanent effects i liked then stopped. i got top surgery, and i got a hysterectomy.
now i have a body very suited for my nonbinary identity. you can 100% transition medically in any way you want

JERRY: [PICKS UP COFFEE CUP] “I don’t think that’s what’s going on.” [DRINKS COFFEE]
GEORGE: [COMPLETELY IGNORING THIS] “And I get that. I really do. Because things have never worked out for George. George has never been able to stick the landing. But Georgina? [HE CHUCKLES CONFIDENTLY] Georgina’s going places.”

JERRY: “Ya know, I think that the trans community is facing enough challenges without you being in the mix.”

Trans visibility has gotten scarier for years now, and the trans people celebrating today are extraordinary. I love every single one of my trans siblings, including the ones who don't want to be visible today or can't be. Stay safe, and don't let them take your pride away from you.
The Department of Education worked with the far-right Family Research Council to officially designate March 12th as Detrans Awareness Day last year. But what actually leads people to detransition? It's not regret, but social stigma, incited by the very figures who claim to protect detransitioners. I want to hear their stories describing how the current moral panic influenced their decisions.
I read something a while ago where someone talked about how they frame it not as "detransition" but as "retransition". Because yes, often it's about external pressures and going back in the closet, but also, "detransition" implies an undoing. it implies that their feelings when they transitioned the first time were wrong, were a mistake. It implies that they had a lapse in understanding of themselves and are now correcting an error. And I have a lot of problems with that framework even without the fact that trans folks are heavily pressured to detransition.
People want to act like when you transition it's only and solely a recognition that you were always XYZ, but for many trans people - especially if you are genderqueer, nonbinary, genderfluid - that may not be the case at all. Gender is like a dimmer switch, it can change and fluctuate and while yeah, some people start and stay firmly at one end or another, it's not inaccurate to recognize that for a lot of people gender changes over time. So for someone that transitioned once, then later said you know what, I'm transitioning in the other direction, that doesn't mean that they are "detransitioning". They're not necessarily unbecoming trans, or suddenly realizing they were cis the whole time. They pursued recognition as one gender, and are now pursuing recognition as a different gender. They are transitioning again.
It helped so much with putting words to concepts around gender and transition that I rarely saw anyone talking about, because so much emphasis has been put on "I was always this and never that" as a framework for the trans experience. That's a valid experience for many, but it is not universal.
Anyways, to everyone who has ever transitioned, or retransitioned, I love you, and I support whatever makes you feel happy and safe. You deserve to feel seen and happy.
