Aaaand as of Wednesday this week, I'm officially finished with my cancer treatments - Maintenance Treatment Number Twelve is done!

My final treatment was delivered in Paris... by which I mean the Paris Room, decorated with the Eiffel Tower along the big wall. (The theme of my unit's decor is travel, so our side rooms are the Paris and New York rooms, the corridors are covered in maps, there are mountain ranges in the loos because why not, etc.)

The clouds were Deliberately Fluffy in celebration, or so I'm telling myself.

I'm very incoherent right now because I went back to work today, and that turned out to be Inadvisable For Many Reasons, so excuse me for disappearing again while I sleep for a week or three!

thinking about how when you experience a lot of shame in your formative years (indirectly, directly, as abuse or just as an extant part of your environment) it becomes really difficult to be perceived by other people in general. the mere concept of someone watching me do anything, whether it's a totally normal activity or something unfamiliar of embarrassing, whether I'm working in an excel spreadsheet or being horny on main, it just makes my skin crawl and my brain turn to static because I cannot convince myself that it's okay to be seen and experienced. because to exist is to be ashamed and embarrassed of myself, whether I'm failing at something or not, because my instinctive reaction to anyone commenting on ANYTHING I'm doing is to crawl into a hole and die. it's such a bizarre and dehumanizing feeling to just not be able to exist without constantly thinking about how you are being Perceived. ceaseless watcher give me a god damn break.

I'm normally not involved in the people-facing stuff because Panic, but checked with Boss and Colleague Currently Dealing With The Enquiry (who was thankfully v grateful for my involvement), added my questions into the exchange, and suddenly there were Lots Of People Very Enthusiastically Wanting My Help and I'm scheduled to go and do In-Person Advice Things next week, where I'll be using knowledge I (somehow) have and equipment I built myself to aid someone else's typing comfort at work!

Boss also got excited about the prospect of adding a Custom Ergonomic Keyboard Service to our repertoire, which is something I'd wanted to do since I first applied for this job, so I'm writing a proposal of sorts for our partner department (that does the more design-y projects to do with accessibility) to potentially take on!

Yearly reminder to everyone trying to find alternatives to tumblr/social media in general: go make a Neocities account and teach yourself basic HTML and post your art/writing/shitposts there.

It does take extra time to set up (but there are templates out there!) but it is so so worth it to have a site that is 100% YOURS!

You don’t even have to be that good at coding. I’m not. My site is not very accessible via mobile devices but that is fine with me (keeps me off my phone) but there are plenty of ways to make your site mobile friendly. There are plenty of bare bones/accessible sites I adore purely for the media on it.

Imagine having your site on your phone and showing someone- hey! I coded this from scratch. And I didn’t even have to pay a company like squarespace. All your images, links, writings, in one place. I have my fandom edits, memes, fanart, and custom graphics there.

Neocities has a very bare bones follower and comment system, but you can disable this if you want your site to truly abstain from any social media-isms. I use it because its a great way to meet other webmasters and get help with coding problems. Neocities isn't an exact replacement for Tumblr (no reblogging here) but html coding is an invaluable skill to know, as is keeping a personal website in this day in age.

The awesome thing about having your own website is if, god forbid, Neocities goes down, you can move your site to any other number of hosting platforms (like Teacake.org). Your site is truly YOURS, and no one else (shitty tech CEO cough cough) can take it away from you.

I know neocities has been talked about before, especially within my follower circle, but I thought I'd bring it up again for anyone unaware of this awesome platform.

i have this kind of cat:

she’s called The Bean, she’s very special, she has negative one braincells and is truly useless at everything she attempts to do, i love her. her hobbies include lusting after baked goods, destroying my furniture, and sniffing people’s feet in an offputting sort of manner.

jokes aside, i was told she was a Himalayan, but she’s a rescue so i’m not sure how accurate that is. she’s a long-haired squashed-face lap cat though, so she’s probably something pretty close. her hair’s a few inches long in most places and quite “toothy” (i.e. sticks to itself and grips really well) despite being fairly straight, so it spins pretty nicely! you just have to be very attentive when drafting because the staple is so short.

as for how long i brushed her… i’ve been collecting on and off for maybe a year and a half now, though a lot of stuff i’ve groomed off her in that time i have just binned on auto-pilot. the stuff in the photos above is probably less than half what i’ve got actually collected though! she’s the kind of cat where every time i groom her (once or twice a week), i suddenly have Two Cats, so she’s pretty efficient as a sheep replacement.

i will say, though, the picture is probably a bit misleading - there’s a Lot of air in that rolled up batt, and it squashed down to less than half the size quite easily for transport. her hair’s very very fine and poofy so there looks like there’s a lot more of it than there actually is.

The Bean! What an incredibly gorgeous fluffy The Bean! I adore her!! I'm so curious how her fur will spin up, my own experience with angora-adjacent cat fur was unsatisfactory. If it's very toothy, it should work out well, but I wonder if that will affect softness?
