Happy Pride everyone, today is the tenth anniversary of the nationwide right to gay Marriage in the United States and the 22nd anniversary of nationwide legalization of Gay Sex. In 2 days is the 56th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.
We have won nothing without fighting and we have everything to lose, there is no gay liberation without trans liberation, none of us are free till all of us are free, we have won so much and come so far but the road ahead is still long, we must continue to fight for both our liberation and the liberation of all people
The gay liberation movement is young, everything we have fought for and won happened over the course of less than a human lifetime, and there are forces at play that wish to claw back at these hard fought for rights, we must be prepared to defend what we have fought for and we must continue to fight for improvement
We have to celebrate how far things have come, because we never would have made it this far without joy and hope, and while we can and must fight, we also must remain hopeful
Nationwide right to gay marriage in the United States: Obergefell v. Hodges, June 26, 2015
Nationwide legalization of Gay Sex: Lawrence v. Texas, June 26, 2003
Stonewall Uprising: June 28 – July 3, 1969
I wasn’t built to be employed. I need to stay up until 4 am like a normal person
Being a notorious robotlover in the current state of "AI" is the worst. I love robots discovering how they process their feelings in fiction, but when a chatbot pretends it knows how to love it feels like an insult to the craft
Reblog if you're transmasc, support trans men, or want a chocolate chip cookie
Not me liking every single pride post I see trying to get the unique animations
Carnivorous plants doin this is so funny to me
They don't wanna eat their pollinators :(
Grace and Rocky are living in like this whimsical space adventure. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Eva Stratt just ordered her fifth assassination this week trying to stop WW3. The other day she replaced Jeff Bezos with a homonculus clone grown in a lab so she can repurpose Amazon into a humanitarian aid distribution network. She had a team of lawyers trick a demon into extending her lifespan by 30 years just so she can live to see through Project Hail Mary.
So my beta reader for the Big Fics is an astrophysicist, right. Who is currently also writing a hard sci-fi novel about the exploration of Phobos (more power to them, I cannot with the physics required for that, best I can do is soft sci-fi/fantasy and that reminds me I should finish that story).
Anyway I was bitching about how hard it is to come up with feasible planets in Star Wars because sometimes you need a new planet from scratch and sometimes you need to know more about a planet than the 'has jungles, is probably a moon technically' than Wookieepedia will give you, and they're like 'oh yeah I can do something about that'.
So they've written (in Matlab but they swear it will run as a .exe as well and I may be conscripted to embed it as a web tool at some point) a star system generator.
You input what you know about the planet (ecosystem, population, sun colour, does it have liquid water, does it have a moon or moons, is it a moon or moons, temperature averages, atmosphere, you get me) and it will give you the... everything else about the star system, in obedience to real-universe physics. And if you input nothing you get a randomly generated star system.
And I’m like oh I know people who will be into this with a vengeance, and they're not on Tumblr, so this is me seeing who exactly would be keen on, and I cannot stress this enough, a real-physics comprehensive star system generator.
It's still in the debugging phase (last error fixed: every planet wants to have a population of exactly 5000 regardless of other factors, turned out to be a missing equals sign somewhere), but I'm psyched for this and trying to gauge interest for how high a priority 'make this an accessible web tool' needs to be.

my YouTube algorithm has been showing me a lot of horse racing recently and since the Kentucky derby is today, the last few days all my recommendations have been filled with every middle-ages dudebros podcast about gambling and betting strategies and How To Pick The Real Winner and how to min-max your bet and bla bla bla. Buddy I’ve already got my favorite horsie picked out and it’s because he’s Silly.
reasons i like the horsie Great White:
he's about 6 inches taller and 200lbs heavier than any other horse in the field. big ol honse.
his record kind of sucks and when an interviewer asked his trainer "what do you think [the horse] will need to do to win the derby?' the trainer just said "get a lot better."
the horse was deadset on eating the landscaping shrubbery during the interview
thats all i need, absolutely sold, go get em Great White.
this couldn't have ended any more perfectly
guess which one is great white
I went to see Project Hail Mary and was absolutely APPALLED at the improper centrifuging technique. You put the two samples on opposite sides! Even if the machine says it's going to be fine, no self respecting scientist wouldn't follow that procedure.

You are suddenly placed into the body of a professional in a high-risk field. Everyone around you fully believes you are qualified, and no one will question your decisions.
You must act immediately. You cannot delay or ask for help. You cannot do nothing and you cannot delegate to other people.
In both scenarios, you are the sole point of failure. Any safeguards, assistants, automated systems, or review processes will automatically accept your decisions as correct and will not catch or correct any mistakes.
You retain your own real-world knowledge, judgment, and skills. You do not gain the training or muscle memory of the professional whose body you are in.
You will not be blamed for the outcome, but you will be fully aware of whatever happens.
Option 1: Brain Surgery
You are in the middle of a complex, high-risk brain surgery. A patient is open on the table, and you must complete the procedure. A small mistake will likely result in their death or severe permanent damage.
Option 2: Rocket Science
You must calculate and finalize the launch and reentry trajectory for a spacecraft carrying five astronauts into orbit. A small error will result in their deaths.

Just came home from a dinner party with the friendgroup at which several people kept saying "Ask Pedro" or "Pedro will know" and I was terrified that they were referring to an AI like Claude but no, thank fuck, they were referring to a cardboard cutout of Pedro Pascal that someone left upstairs and who has been designated a kind of patron saint status in the household.
In case anyone is having a bad night
