Sneaky though that looks (and IMO it IS sneaky, surfacing now as it has) the reason is legit: issue of 60+ cards require a passport or other "strong" ID, issue 18+ cards do not.

Northern Ireland's equivalent to the Voter Authority Certificate is an Electoral Identity Card, for which the deadline is midnight on 26 June 2024.
However:
When will I receive my card? It takes time to process your application. If your application is successful you should allow up to six weeks to receive your Electoral Identity Card.
I wonder how an application for one of these made right now - or indeed made the instant the General Election was announced - will play out come 4th June.

I'm actually comfortable in this pit you put me in. I like it in here and I will resist any attempt made to rescue me. I'm happy with the scraps you feed me and I don't mind how sick I'm getting.
post modernist feminists be like
lets deconstruct what it means to „be in a pit“. being fed scraps is only considered a bad thing because we gave it that cultural meaning. if you think about it, being fed scraps can be empowering because you dont have to feed yourself. being „sick“ can also be deconstructed and is not inherently negative, sickness is in fact defined by society as such because it deviates from the norm. what does being sick mean, really? is it not just another facet of queerness, of being ostracised by society for arbitrary characteristics?
we conclude. the pit is a radical queer space and we have to redefine and change the narrative about what it means to be sick from the scraps being fed to you. in the pit

I'm not cut out for living in the city uggghhhh there are too many people and noises and smells
One of the most dangerous things in the world is not being able to say no to people because you don't want to upset them or dissapoint them. This will completely ruin your life in every way possible, at work, in your private life, your sex life and your friendships. It's a way of removing your own consent in your own decisions and go against your wishes, it is always a crime against yourself. Let yourself have a say. Upsetting people is better than traumatizing yourself.
I'm gonna point out the elephant in the room: it is overwhelmingly women who have this problem because we live in societies that praise women for being self-sacrificing and condemn us for being even a fraction as selfish as men get to be. So in order to overcome this tendency, women need to not only confront our individual issues but also acknowledge the social forces that are driving our reluctance to say no.
Two lovers have reincarnated throughout history, destined to find each other and fall in love all over again. There’s also this third guy that reincarnates alongside them… we don’t really know what he does.
just put on your profile you think lesbians can fuck men and we’re all just bisexuals who czn choose who to love? why pretend to be a lesbian and denigrade actual lesbians?
very radleaning to insist women who fuck men are lesbians.
hi congrats you're my first angry anon!
I don't think there is much chance of me changing your opinion on this, and that's OK.
I do find this position difficult to reconcile with my own beliefs and experiences. Like, if I grew up in a vacuum away from sexism and homophobia, maybe things would have been different. I recognise that some women do grow up so sure of themselves, and maintain their boundaries in the face of homophobia and sexism and social pressure and family pressure and religious pressure etc etc, often at great personal cost - I have nothing against gold stars, I'm happy for them and I admire them!
But I just don't agree that any woman who has ever attempted to date a man due to social pressures is bi. That includes women who have been intimate with men in the past before realising they were lesbians. I don't think it's right to attack these women or call them fake lesbians. It's been said before, but gay men who have dated women and then came out later just get to be... gay men.
The idea that once a woman has dated or been intimate with a man she is permanently ruined or changed somehow is just plain old sexism IMO.
Also, quick detour - it's bad enough having to deal with all the bs about dating men, but I really feel for young girls who maybe are out as lesbians but feel pressured to date and be intimate with TIMs. Like that's another layer of fucked up - I don't think the ones who believe it all and get involved and later regret it should be called fake lesbians.
On the whole, in my opinion, it's just... extremely ugly behaviour to attack women over this.
I will share this about me, not for you anon, because I'm pretty sure you're not going to read it or you're going to hate it and come back and tell me I'm bi anyway lol, but for any woman reading this and feeling shit about herself, because I have seen a fair amount of this on radblr and it stopped me engaging in things for sure.
I came out as a lesbian at 15 to one person before I ever dated a man. I never told anyone else, but I'd already started being bullied at school because people could just tell. I was bullied for being a lesbian starting at like age 12, when we went on a school trip and the brother of the girl I was sharing a room with called me a dyke. Anyway, I never told anyone else, and was thoroughly miserable trying to date men until my early 20s.
All my family ever wanted of me was to be "normal", and I knew that people could tell I wasn't. I was vulnerable for a lot of different reasons (poor, mentally ill, alcohol and substance issues) and I'd seen enough of how women who weren't "normal" were treated - so I was a good girl, internalised the idea that I was the problem, and tried my best so I could one day maybe get married and have kids because I thought that's what would "fix" me.
I'm not going to say where I'm from but I will say it's very rough, I grew up in social housing, and I know it's not just a me thing, because I hand on heart didn't know a single lesbian my age til I went to uni. There wasn't a single girl my age at school who was able to be out while she was still at home.
Anyway, I was so in denial, I used to try and talk to my female friends about it when I was drunk, I thought if I asked them the question in the right way, they'd tell me how they also hated kissing/intimacy with men and that they also felt sick and like they weren't in their bodies when they did it.
In the period of time that I was figuring things out, I never ever ever referred to myself as a lesbian. I dated women also, and referred to myself as bi for a bit, but while I was actively trying (and failing lol) to date men, I never called myself a lesbian.
When I couldn't take it anymore and came out, I was away from home and able to support myself. I have never looked back. I have no interest in males, I don't feel attracted to them at all, the general heavy sense of dread about my future disappeared. I lost friends and family, and I have had some awful experiences that I'm not going to get into here. I personally would not have been able to do that at 15. I am in awe of women who could, and were able to survive worse.
FWIW, I also don't think that adult women who are choosing to pursue / expressing interest in / fucking men and still calling themselves lesbians are in the right. But the cruelty towards lesbians who dated men in the past is uncalled for.
but this is long enough already! and my lunch is getting cold
yeah, saying being a gold star lesbian is the only way a woman can actually be a lesbian is getting ppl's asses blocked. i'm so tired of this stupid shit. you are a middle or upper middle class white american woman with liberal parents that voted for obama in 2008, of course you had no issues with your sexuality because nothing in your environment ever made you believe it was wrong. go fuck yourself if you genuinely believe that
what the fuck i'm so pissed that shit is so misogynistic and insensitive to women who grew up in fundamentalist religions, women who have gone through conversion therapy, and women who have been raped by men. how fucking sheltered and privileged do you have to be to say some shit like that and then have the audacity to be proud of it? some of you make me throw up in my mouth, seriously
ikr 😭😭 like I'm a gold star lesbian technically but I don't interact with most gold stars because of how toxic the idea that gold stars are the only real lesbians is, most of them just hate bisexual women and so they're overly paranoid about "fakebians" or whatever like . .. get a life im begging PLEASEEE
like. yes lesbian is a term for homosexual female humans but you literally cannot know what other peoples experiences are or define how they feel/felt about other people?? and if a woman who thought she was a lesbian ends up being bisexual, so what? bisexual people are perfectly normal and deserving of respect, please grow up 😭
Soooo many girls grow up being forced fed the idea that they aren't supposed to like/want sex, that it's normal for men to push it on them or try to pressure them into it. And for so many young girls growing up in conservative areas, or u accepting households, or even those with extreme internalized homophobia, they feel like "laying back and thinking of England" is how sex is supposed to feel. That doesn't mean they aren't real lesbians, it means that they were in a dark headspace or even physical space and we're doing what they thought was expected of them. It means they need support and sympathy, not hate.
Hate the identity craze
Your aesthetic is not your identity. Movies you watch are not your identity. Your URL is not your identity. Your pronouns are not your identity.
Stuff you arrange in order to get external validation by tricking people into perceiving you as "cool and weird" is not your identity. If it was you wouldn't need to shove it into everyone's face like it's your only personality trait. Your frog earrings and and desire to rewatch Hannah Montana for the third time this year are not who you are. You want to be unique by imitating cool trends or making up generic quirks and lose everything that could possibly be unique about you. "Weird" people don't try to be weird. In fact, they don't give a fuck what others think of them. That's the opposite of you
The very concept of having an identity is insane. It's a self-referential death spiral of trying to cling to things and ideas that you associate with yourself, in order to get others to associate "you" with what you perceive yourself as being.
In reality, who someone "is" is entirely defined by how others see them, so by trying to force people to see you in a specific way, you are that "identity" in the same way an actor is their role; you've turned your entire life into a performance of trying to maintain the illusion. And if "who you are" requires effort to maintain, guess what, it's not really who you are.
I think the problem was saying "Be yourself", to people who don't understand the concept of the self, when the actual point that was being made was "Don't put on a facade in order to fit in". Instead they've taken "Be yourself" to mean "You decide what labels apply to you, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise", and started making up new things to "identify as" in order to feel like they're part of something, and the rest of us are all forced to play along and miserable because of it.
