you seem to know a lot about silver 🧍♀️
Can you, perchance, explain the intricacies of the sleep spell that was/is placed upon him? I know that he was placed under a spell as a baby, left only to awake when someone who will love him finds him, but why does he have borderline narcolepsy?
🤧 maybe i missed it somewhere or something.
I will explain what we know and what I think may be the case, but overall the game hasn't touched on it too much outside of a throwaway 'conclusion' that was really off-handed which sucks :/
Kinda hope twst actually does expand on that since the sleep spell was a big mystery/a huge point of insecurity for Silver as a character, it doesn't quite feel right to have him be told about it off-screen and he doesn't even get to talk about it with his dad or anyone else in diasomnia.
For all I know we will learn more specifics, but if twst really does just drop it, here's what we know/can assume-
Silver says a STYX doctor explained to him that the sleep spell he was under for 400 years had remnants still stuck to him
What this means is the spell was broken for him (obviously, he can wake up and would not be able to if it was still there), but he is still affected by it. When he describes it as dwindling away/him doing a lot better and feeling more awake, it could mean one of two things-
Silver could've been slowly weaning off the spell for years now (maybe he could've been worse as a child and has been doing better overall) or being asleep in Malleus's spell and breaking out of it has helped clear out a lot of it/getting him to a point where he might not have it anymore one day/might not have it any more currently (? This I'm unsure about but we'll get there)
Or, it is the destruction of Silver's ring that is freeing him of the spell,
Because Silver's ring was something that amplified his previous guardian fairy's magic. He wore it for 300+ years longer than his guardian fairies originally predicted for him (which is insane in retrospect)
Silver was struck with a drowsy spell the minute he saw the ring and it emitted a magical blue glow, possibly signifying that it was still holding onto Silver's sleep spell or was triggering it in him just from being in such close proximity.
Lilia kept the ring so it could've contributed to keeping the spell in Silver, and it getting destroyed in book 7 could've mostly gotten rid of the spell effects for him.
I thiiiink this is likely, but Silver was able to wear his ring again just fine with no problems, and I think its just as likely Silver just had the spell effects stuck to him because he was just a small baby with extremely powerful magic placed on him for over 400 years, I wouldn't be surprised if the magic just became a part of him in some way (there's a quote from Ortho in his lab gear vignette that always read as foreshadowing to me, but I'm probably wrong lol)
So tldr; Silver has/had remnants of his sleep spell stuck on him either due to him being in the spell for so long as a baby, or the ring that amplified his spell was still in tact.
As for the current state of his spell in main story, while Silver claims he's doing better, he still seems to sleep pretty deep and go into mini-comas, as he missed lunch and the entirety of his afternoon classes and was woken up by his peers at the end of the school day,
I don't know if this establishes status quo or not, as this revelation for his character was quick, brushed off and they haven't touched on it since.
I don't know if this is how the twst writers want to settle this. It does seem weird to me that his family isn't even involved in this nor does he get to talk to them about it, but there were a lot of things related to Silver that ended up off screen at the end of book 7 anyway for whatever reason.
For all we know, we could come back to this and delve deeper, what this means for his life moving forward if the spell's effects ever fully fade in his lifetime, will they even be gone within his lifetime or will it be stuck to him because of how long its been?
If Silver's struggles were truly triumphed over for real, I would've assumed we'd get a vignette about it, or hear about it in main story outside of this convo, or maybe they would've changed his idle animations to not be sleepy anymore, and if the sleep spell IS meant to still be with Silver in some form, can we please see more of how he navigates it now that he knows the cause 😭
and again, I'm still not even sure if it was truly the ring doing this or just his body being still affected by how long he's been in magic sleep. It's one of those lol
I say all of this, but there's also 'this is a gag and also a trait that reminds you of Sleeping Beauty, do not take it seriously. It's supposed to be funny that he falls asleep all the time' which....
But since Silver is shown in his vignettes especially to be frustrated at himself over this and in his cozy clothes especially it seems like it's treated seriously, but I'm always suspicious of the gag.....I hope it can be treated with tact, as it does function as a literal disability for him that deserves more than just a 'funny joke'
Anyway I hope this helps! I wish I had more concrete stuff, but we can only hope!
