i find it amusing in series 5 how costume has given up/changed their minds about hiding the tattoos that keith lee castle has and the count no longer wears little like wristbands that cover it. full sleeves for the count why not, the rest of the lore introduced in the series makes no sense anyhow

i feel very strong and protective of young dracula. i want to gatekeep it, that was my childhood. all these ppl discovering young dracula now bc of the pitt. they just don’t get it

ik i sound ridiculous but like that’s my childhood show, wanna keep it to myself, wdym ppl outside of the uk who weren’t kids watching it from 2006-2014 are now watching it, participating in the fandom, making edits, it’s just so strange.

just wish i could gatekeep it (not actually like mad or hate it or anything just wish it would remain our childhood thing you know)

Very much relating to this, not that I usually want to gatekeep things necessarily! Like, I was making my recent partner watch through it all with me, I try to make my friends watch it - it's my comfort show and special interest so I want to share it! But it's especially jarring seeing folk who aren't from the UK talk about it, like yes it's brilliant but not only am I protective of it there are also nuances that you just won't quite get because you didn't grow up in early 2000's britain! idk. I think a part of what makes it so brilliant for me at least IS the nostalgia. Rewatching some of it and seeing discussions now - it really is a piece of media with plot holes (aren't they all) and it's not that deep BUT that doesn't make it any less special or meaningful for me. Like, it's the memory of making all my friends watching Series 1 & 2 on youtube in year 3 and making it my entire personality. Being so excited when Series 3 was announced, and watching all the subsequent series as they were released. Especially because that doesn't really happen much any more with the prevalence of streaming services (which is a whole other conversation).

I remember being like 8 and on those cbbc forums - does anyone remember those? it was like reddit but for kids and about cbbc programs - and there was this one user who referred to themselves as "No 1 Young Dracula Fan" and I got so annoyed (because how could anyone claim that title when number one that's ME and number two, uh who made you queen and decided to give you that title) that I started signing off my posts and replies on that chain as "No.1 Young Dracula Fan (IN MY OPINION)". Hilarious scenes to think back about, aged 8 on the family computer.

also not to be controversial, but something I've seen that the purist in me isn't a fan of is these crossover fics/fan content between the two shows. Totally get it, I just scroll past it, not gonna yuck anyone's yum, BUT - that's my childhood program!! and Vlad isn't american!! it doesn't make sense!! tbf I also haven't watched the pitt, I'm not one for hospital dramas, but it does just make me feel very protective of YD. I have more thoughts and opinions but I think I shall hold off lol anyway i relate!! I made this blog like 6 years ago now because I had no one to talk to about the show, and there wasn't really much of an active fandom online either, and now there's SO many posts which is great and I love it but also damn where'd you all spring from.

also unrelated but there was a wattpad fanfic from like a decade ago that was BRILLIANT but i cannot remember the name or even anything about as it was SO long ago it's lost media. not relevant I just miss that time of the fandom.
