It was already late and Pete wasnโt home, and of course, you were worried he kept getting into stupid fights at the pub and every time his condition worsened.
Meanwhile, you were pacing through the house you heard the sound of the door opening, โhiya love, Iโm backโ said Pete entering the door, โdo you know what time it is? You were supposed to be back two hours agoโ you almost shouted at him, โItโs just two hours, whatโs your problem?โ He asked getting closer to you, you could smell the alcohol on his breath and that was the last straw โNo whatโs your problem? You know what? Iโm done with this relationship, Iโm tired of waiting for you every night and seeing you coming home beaten up!โ You screamed while taking your coat before leaving.
The sound of the alarm woke you up from the nightmare, it wasnโt unusual for you to get nightmares about the last fight you had with Pete, even if 2 years had passed you couldnโt stop thinking about it, and each time you wonder what could have been, if you knew back then that you were pregnant with his child.
Once you recovered from the nightmare you realised that it was already late and you had to wake up Liam, your two-year-old son, โgood morning darlingโ you cooed picking up the baby, he just looked at you and yawned. โDo you want breakfastโ you playfully asked โyayyโ he answered while clapping his hands.
A sudden ringing from your phone caught your attention, โhelloโ you said picking up the phone โhello, is this Miss Y/N Y/L/N?โ A female voice on the other end asked, โyes, why?โ โWe want to let you know that Pete has entered the emergency room yesterday evening and he was rushed into surgery, everything went well and he will be discharged this evening, he has a broken leg and a dislocated shoulder so itโs better if someone accompanies him home.โ in that moment you felt a wave of shock through your body, โlโm sorry, who is Pete?โ You asked almost whispering โPete Dunham, you are listed as his emergency contactโ the woman said confused โT-thanksโ you said in disbelief hanging up the phone. You could feel a thousand questions filling your head, what happened to Pete, and why he is in the hospital.
The rest of the day went by quickly while you tried not to worry about Pete, and the more you looked at Liam the more you felt bad about not telling Pete the truth and you also felt scared about the reaction that he could have when he found out that he had a son.
The hospital was quiet the only sound you could hear was the stroller on the plastic floor, โhello Iโm here for Pete Dunhamโ you said to the lady at the front desk โMiss Y/N Y/L/N, right? Heโs in room number 1214โ said the lady kindly. After a short walk, you reached the room, and you had to take all the courage you had in yourself to open that door. The room was small and the light was soft, there was a small bed in the centre of the room and Pete was sitting on it. โY/N what are you doing here?โ He asked shocked โthe hospital called me this morning, they said that I was your emergency contactโ you answered โohโฆIโm sorry about thatโ he said looking at the floor, an uncomfortable silence covered the room for seconds that felt like hours, then a small sound from the trolley caught your attention. โIs this your son?โ Pete asked looking at the toddler โyes, his name is Liamโ you said picking up the baby, โhi Liam, how old are you?โ Asked Pete looking at the baby, Liam held up his hand to make a two with his fingers, the sweet moment was interrupted by a nurse coming into the room โMiss Y/N can I have a word with you outsideโ โyes, of courseโ you said leaving the baby with Pete. While the nurse talked you couldnโt really focus on what she said, you couldnโt stop staring at Pete he looked so comfortable around Liam and they looked so alike, it was probably a matter of time before he finds out the truth and you knew it, you werenโt really picking up on what the woman in front of you was saying, she talked about some wound on his lower abdomen that you had to take care of, you thanked the lady and got ready to leave.
The drive home was quite really quiet, โthe nurse said that you need help with a wound on you lower abdomen so itโs better if you stay at my placeโ you said breaking the silence โSโnot that serious I can do it myselfโ he said โand I donโt want to bother you or Liamโs fatherโ he added shortly after โactually Liamโs father and I donโt live together, in reality we never didโ you said looking over to Liam who was sleeping in the back seat, โoh, Iโm sorryโ he said almost whispering.
When you arrived home it was already late so you decided to put Liam to sleep. Once you closed the door you found Pete sitting on the sofa and looking around the apartment. โLay down, I need to check the wound on your lower abdomenโ you said getting close to him, โLiam looks so happy, you probably are a really good motherโ he said smiling at you. โYou know, Iโm trying my bestโ you said lifting his shirt โwhoa, slow down we havenโt seen each other in yearsโ he said laughing with you. After you medicated his wound you both decided to watch TV together and you couldnโt help but notice how Pete hadnโt changed even a bit since the last time you saw him he still looked as handsome as before.
The next few days went by quickly and all three of you had settled into a strange routine, Pete would help you around the house and he also offered to put Liam to bed.
โLiam is sleeping peacefullyโ said Pete entering the kitchen โthank you for helping me around the house, it seems like Liam really likes youโ you said turning around to face him, โthatโs the least I can do to make up for our breakup, I was really an asshole and I shouldโve listened to you, Iโm sorryโ he said getting closer to you. In that moment you realise that he really meant what he was saying and so you opened your arms to hug him. The hug was a minute too long, you could feel Pete's head buried in your neck, when you both broke off the hug you felt his lips pressing against yours and you gave in to the kiss, the kiss started turning into a make-out session, in that moment you realised that you really wanted him back but you also had to tell him the truth. โI need to tell you somethingโ you said panting after the kiss, โwhatโ he said smiling without knowing what it was yet to come โyou know when we broke up I was pregnant and Liam is your sonโ you said scared of his reaction, โwhy didnโt you tell me? I wouldโve stayedโ he said angrily pulling away from you โI donโt wanna talk about it right now, Iโll go sleepโ he said leaving the small room leaving you with tears in your eyes for the second time in a row.
After the fight you couldnโt sleep so you went to his room. โAre you awake? Can I come inโ you asked knocking on the door โyes come inโ when you opened the door you found him sitting on the bed looking at the door, โIโm sorry I didnโt told you the truth about Liam back then, I was scared you wouldโve left me, in this week I realised that you are the father that Liamโs deserve and that I still love you, I just want to try againโ you said crying getting closer to him on the bed, at first he didnโt said anything he just hugged you tightly โIโm sorry too, I overreacted, I still love you too and I want to make things work this timeโ he said before kissing you, in that moment you felt that everything was going to be alright.
