many women are excited to get old and weird, but i have great news that it's fully possible to become weird now, before you get old. just imagine the heights of weirdness you will be able to reach in fifty years if you get started now. that's what I think
Im weighing in on the discourse. We need to start putting sea monsters on maps again.
Today i witnessed a cutie patootie
When my mom calls me a hoarder jokingly but she doesn't know about the stack of years of landscape architect magazines i have hidden under my bed for the dream-home-vision-board i'm gonna make one day XP
they should invent a father you can forgive
I love being in school and studying biology and asking for help and being curious and understanding math and solving problems and leaning about the world and seeing people who want to make change and having free will and doing what I can and engaging with others and making small talk and recommending books and movies and having discussions and taking my meds and writing and saying what I want and making yummy foods and learning new skills and experiencing the world and engaging in my hobbies and observing everything about the world and experiencing art and talking to people and completing my chores and taking deep breaths and liking how I look and expressing myself and knowing what's to come and not knowing what's to come and wanting to be alive
not me
there’s something so gutwrenching about the fact that the female characters in obsession have real dreams and wishes but never get the chance to see them realized, while both male characters waste their wishes on short-term selfish satisfaction. they were complex, free-spirited young women who just wanted to create art, and they were destroyed by a man determined to confine them to his superficial perception of them. nikki wanted to be a writer, sarah wanted to be a tattoo artist and now neither of them will get to be anything at all
you wished for this.
so i just saw obsession
my that one friend that's too woke opinion is that in a similar vein to how you almost never see fat people or women without makeup on tv you never really see anyone experiencing incontinence issues unless it's a humiliating comedic moment at their expense and that's kind of scary
like sorry to be the bearer of bad news but people piss themselves. when they're afraid. when they've experienced mental and/or physical trauma and their body needs a way to express that stress. when they've been sexually assaulted. when they get older and their muscles start to wear out from a lifetime of service. a not insignificant majority of people Will experience incontinence in their lifetimes and while there are steps you can take to manage it for your own comfort and others', there's simply no moral dimension to it whatsoever. & like i'm not saying every show and movie needs checkhov's bed wetting scene but we have seriously got to get more okay with acknowledging that somehow.
IM DONE. IM FINALLY DONE WITH THIS DUMB BIRDS AFTER TWO MONTHS. KINDA MID BUT IDCCCC
It occurred to me the other day that "writing prompts" are themselves a genre of creative writing

Everybody get more anti war right now
What is even there to say? I can't keep waking up in a world where I read the news and I see schoolchildren bombed, millions of people displaced, old ladies carrying their cats and while their houses get turned into rubble, the waste of industry and human talent into bombs that shoot down other bombs.
Am I insane? what the fuck is going on?
Even the most just war of liberation is painful and regrettable, but you well know I'm not talking about that, we're watching first world countries sell weapons to feed endless war and just bombing targets like if it's a reflex act just what they do, the complete surrender of any hope of building a better world or coexisting and we're all treating this like it's just the natural state of things.
I'm sorry if I'm being dramatic but genuinely, get more anti war right now.
Warfare is not an inherent state of humanity, in any case, and it can and it will be abolished. I'm tired of people treating this like it's just the weather or nature. We know the material reasons behind war and they don't hold up and won't hold up forever.
Avicularia avicularia is one of those tarantulas that a lot of people think they already know everything about, but the real A. avicularia has a pretty wild story behind it.
This is the spider tied to the old bird-eating tarantula legend, and unlike a lot of old natural history stories, that one was not completely made up. They build silk retreats up off the ground on bark, plants, and even buildings, stay tucked away through the day, and come out at night to hunt.
One of the coolest observations on this species came from a spider that repeated the same route night after night for two weeks, apparently traveling to forage around a light where moths were gathering. That is a lot more deliberate than most people give tarantulas credit for.
They are also different from a lot of other New World tarantulas in the way they use urticating hairs. Instead of kicking them into the air, they usually rub them on your skin by contact. And yes, if one ends up in the water, they can float and will paddle themselves to dry land.
Have you ever seen the Guyana Pinktoe Tarantula in person?
