It was so dark. Everything feels so loud. So sight, but still so much.
Once the flash of light dissipated, a humanoid figure stood in the center of the Bubble Room. Gripping the side of her head stood... well, Jasper, in a sense. Her âhairâ traveled down from her head across her back, still like a mane, that led into a tail. Her feet were still reminiscent of strange hooves, with slightly digitigrade legs. Her hands, fingers digging into her scalp, were clawed. Her uniform had returned, with the bare patches of skin beneath it dotted with green patches and spines. Her horns remained, smaller now, curving from the sides of her head and jutting out from where her eyes were supposed to be. Her odd serrated, fanged mouth was gaped open as she breathed.
Opening her mouth, she produced a long, low groan that steadily turned into a snarling growl as she lowered her hands, head swinging from side to side as she attempted to get a bead on the other occupants of the room.
...
It had been a secret scheme hatched in the barn. Heâd dreamt about Jasper last night. He wanted to help her. Like he did with Centipeedle except.. better this time. Hopefully. Heâd had more time for his healing powers to develop further, and Lapis had had time to... reflect. Steven managed to get Lapis to go along with it, Steven had popped the bubble and smacked the doglike corrupted gemâs nose with his spit and...
Well, here they were. Standing before Jasper, chest heaving, body misshapen. Neither Steven or Jasper made any other sound after Jasperâs original growl besides the panting. They seemed to be.. waiting. Each of them for.. something.
A cry ripped through her throat as she was flung across the room, nearly skidding past the broken entrance. Once she regained her footing, she drew her fists to her chest, once again growing nervous and ever more aware that she was in fact, dealing with a corrupted gem here, not a cute and cuddly, helpless animal. Even though, she badly wished it were the case.
And despite her acts of kindness, she knew deep inside they werenât getting through to Jasper 100%. Her patience had limitsâ and reckless violence was the one surefire way to get her blood boiling; she could forgive the first or second time butâ
After examining the state of the barn and looking back at her scraped knees, she now decided that she was fed up.
âJasperâ Iâ Iâm sorry,â she said, eyes brimming with angry tears. âBut if thereâs going to be any chance of you staying here, you have to be good,â she demanded, her voice rising with her temper. âWhich means no more breaking my meepmorps, no hurting me or my friendsââ She took a deep breath, her voice finally lost its edge, and her once explosive anger, becoming as still as a slow-moving river. âDo you understand?â
She felt pathetic, having been reduced to tears from something as frustrating as this, and a mere flesh wound; blood trickling down her limbsâ hah. A bitter smile resurfaced, as she fumbled for another sweet potatoâ as a peace offering.
But in truth, she did not want to see Jasperâs face right now. In fact, she felt like punching it with her leftover anger. She just wanted to be alone right now. But she didnât want to leave her, either, to her own devices.
GGRROOOAAAHHHH!!
Jasper roared into the air as she knocked Lapis away, standing firmly now on her perch, droll dripping between the savage-looking fangs that now made up her mouth. The sound was loud enough to cause some of the decorations Lapis and Peridot had put up on the walls to shake, and to make Peridotâs tape-recorder meepmorp - which had somehow survived Jasperâs initial entry -fall off of its stand.
It didnât seem like she understood. Or maybe she didnât want to understand. It was hard to know how the mind of a corrupted gem worked.
Spittle flew as the roar was directed right in Lapisâs face, a claw coming up to smack the sweet potato out of the other gemâs grasp - though surprisingly causing little to no damage to Lapisâs hand in the process. And, donât the exact opposite of what she was asked, Jasper turned and smashed through the nearby wall, going directly through the baseball meepmorp in the process.
An art connoisseur, Jasper was not.
At least Jasper had the decency not to trample the garden, though that was likely because she was going out of the opposite side of the wall now. She quickly began running away, back towards the cornfield not too far away from the barn.Â
Lapis⊠was struck speechless. When Jasper came at her with those massive paws in order to trap herâ her first instinct was to thrash like hell and and heave heavy breaths. But scream? She⊠was pretty bad at making herself heard, and before she could ultimately decide to, Jasper already had them rolled over, and her absurdly fluffy chest was making it really difficult for her to object to this arrangement now anyway.
An odd, comfortable weight settled over her body, and it seemed that the other had the decency to shift them to the side as well, so she wasnât suffocating or entirely trapped underneath her. Jasper had a conscious, it appeared.
âŠitâs freaking her out. How considerate sheâs proven to be in this state. And Lapis liked that a lot. It made her feel terrible. Not terrible enough to stop from indulging herself, though. Burying her face in her chest, she ran her fingers through her mane, letting out a sigh of contentment. Jasperâs fur was soft to touch, and she loved the feeling dancing under her fingertips.
âGood⊠good girl. Whoâs a good girl? Yâyou are. You are!â
Eventually, she began to give some of the best chest-slash-belly rubs in the world (as seen on Dogcopter) and laughed. She could get into thisâ no, she was getting into this.
âYouâre not so bad,â she said, decisively, drawing her eyes to the mess Jasper had made to the porcelain bowls. âYouâre just⊠scared, and lonely, and need a friend.â Her gaze softened. âIf the gang wants you back in that bubble though, itâs⊠out of my hands.â
Jasperâs gem flashed a couple of times as she held Lapis against her, and Lapis could feel the vague urge to fuse that wouldnât quite connect. It seemed to be that that was what the large dog-like corrupted gem wanted. or didnât want. It didnât seem sure what it wanted, really. It seemed like Lapis was just what she felt... connected to.
And the pets didnât seem to hurt either, the large creature wiggling and sticking her tongue out and panting as she was scritched. The affection was very eagerly received, tail wagging before licking Lapisâs face with a broad pass of her tongue. She relaxed, slightly, as Lapis spoke her analysis, looking at her with her odd, eyeless face. She seemed rather tame!
At least, until Lapis mentioned bubbling her again. A low snarl began to build in the creatures throat, and she let Lapis go, shoving her away forcefully with her face and stomping backwards down the mountain of rubble, fur standing on end as she growled. Saliva dripped from her mouth, and she ducked down low as if she were preparing to pounce, to attack.
She clearly didnât want to go back in.
Jasper let out a whine behind her growls, stamping her feet on the ground as if she were throwing some kind of tantrum alongside her fury.
