Moeraki boulders
The Moeraki boulders are a collection of spherical rocks scattered across Koehohe Beach, in New Zealand’s South Island. Maori legend has it these boulders are actually gourds or eel baskets scattered on the shore after the canoe Araiteuru was wrecked while sailing south seeking precious greenstone. Variously likened to dinosaur eggs, giant turtle eggs and pods from outer space, this particular crop reminded me of a strand of beads strewn across the beach.
