My knight and I stroll through the castle gardens together and pass under a blossom tree. The knight's height causes the branches to jostle, and flowery petals fall upon his helm. I giggle and shake the tree so that we're both covered in rose pinks and soft blues. I can hear him laughing beneath his armored shell, a softness reserved only for moments like this. Later in the afternoon, I will make him rest his head on my lap and lay a flowercrown on his brow. Then, if there's time, give him the strap inside the hedgemaze.

lord x squire where the squire is actually infinitely better at fighting than their lord, but they pretend not to be. they let their defenses fall open while sparring (so their lord ends up making them lose their feet and pinning them to the ground). they fake gripping their sword the wrong way (so their lord has to correct their grip and their position, touching the squire's arm and wrist and knee and leaning over them to murmur, their breath hot against the squire's ear, how a knight has to stand to best exploit their enemies' weaknesses). Clearly the lord will be shocked (and slightly turned on) when the squire gets fed up with the pretense and just turns up one day to the training yard with face like thunder and fights back like never before. the lord's sword clatters to the ground as they lose their footing and end up sprawled on their back. the squire looks unimpressed.
