Author’s note: This was written for week 4 of Klaroline Fanfic Week @klarolinefanficweek - Science Fiction. This is a Klaroline human AU fusion with the movie Bloodshot. Soldier Klaus is wounded in battle and wakes up in an underground facility that specializes in cybernetic enhancements. Fellow soldier Caroline is there to help him acclimate to their new clandestine missions. But in a covert organization, there’s secrets one can guess, and then there’s secrets that one doesn’t even know they’re keeping...
Soldiering On
The beeping was persistent, but when Klaus tried to roll over and slam down the snooze button on his alarm clock, he realized his limbs felt oddly heavy, and not only was he not in his bedroom, he didn’t appear to be in his house. Also, he was supposed to be dead.
The last thing he remembered was the rebel leader General Silas stabbing him in the chest with a golden dagger when he carelessly leaned over to grab the stolen launch codes. Taking an experimental deep breath, Klaus was shocked that he felt fine. Better than fine. There was usually any number of bothersome twinges he felt whenever he first woke up, courtesy of his years in the military. Eyeing the high-tech machines that surrounded his spa-like bed, he tried to grasp what happened. Clearly, General Silas missed his heart. But what happened after that was anyone’s guess.
“Hey, you’re looking good.”
Klaus glanced at the doorway, taken aback by the lovely blonde gazing at him with an unreadable expression. That blush that stained her cheeks was amusing as hell. “I mean, um, that you look completely healed up and that’s good,” she quickly stammered out, moving to his bedside to help unhook the various gadgets with a faint golden glow that he likely couldn’t spell even if he did recognize them. “I’m Caroline.”
Her warm, electric touch felt like a promise. Or a reminder.
