I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.

I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.

Fascinated with the contrast between the (obviously) iconic Corruption Chuuya laugh and the fact that, for almost all of its use time, Chuuya remains neutral to focused/determined during Corruption:

there are actually only 2 panels where he's laughing, notably only after he's defeated his foe, before Dazai steps in:

If you watch the Dead Apple Corruption scene, Chuuya never laughs maniacally, remaining focused the entire time (as his objectives were "defeat the dragon" and "find Dazai" instead of destroying everything around).

On the other side, in Storm Bringer, we see Verlaine laugh while under Brutalization, in the middle of the action when he's already started decimating his enemies (with little resistance). His laugh is described as inhuman and compared to various powerful sounds of destruction.

Still in SB, Chuuya, for his part, smiles his wicked grins when the battle is at its peak with the sharing of blows, but otherwise is only described as howling and yelling (much like he was doing in Dead Apple).

I cannot argue how iconic the mad-with-power laughter of Corruption is, but I find it very interesting how we, the fandom as a whole, have fixated on such a small part of it to the point of assuming the laughter is a constant presence.

The first time he used Corruption against a foe, when the fight was at its most violent, he held his ground to fight back and that's when he started grinning.

The second time, during the Lovecraft fight, it's only after he's defeated Lovecraft that the uncanny smile and laughter begin. Notably, this is years after not using that side of his ability.

The common factor seems to be the euphoria of proving his strength. We know Chuuya loves a good fight, know he tends to grin and laugh when faced with a good adversary and when the fight is allowing him to pull cool moves.

Is Chuuya laughing during Corruption because he feels his own immeasurable strength and gets high on it? Does it get to his head to know what he can, what he could accomplish? Does he know, does he feel anything about it? To the boy who kicked a gun out of his newly assigned partner's hand for going overboard, what does it feel like to have to trust that, once the enemy has been defeated, this same partner will step him tell him to rest, to stop him in time before he goes overboard himself?
