grief is a weird thing.

i had already felt the grief in losing my aunt and then two childhood dogs i grew up with. but ever since losing one of my dogs last month it just reopened the wounds i already have but 10 times worse.

i can’t look at her ashes, or her paw prints or even think about her without tearing up. she was only 5 years old.

i still don’t know how long she was sick or how she got sick, but she had really bad kidney problems.

any pet owners who may see this, hug your fur babies really tight.

I feel this on a deep and personal level and I know you're making a joke but I do also want to take this opportunity to pass along the biggest small piece of advice I've ever gotten: You don't have to explain every step of how something happened unless something unusual/important happens along the way.

You can simply cut to the next scene when she's at the location, without explaining how she got there. People will fill that in. Now, if something important happens in the car on the way there, then sure, mention it. But if she's just driving? Nah. Delete that sentence, pop in a scene break, and keep writing.

A few days ago, one of my colleagues saw a one year old kitty for sudden onset seizures. First thought was idiopathic epilepsy, but:

Turned out that someone in the family had brought lilies into the house and put them up high, thinking that the cat wouldn't get to them. Alas, even a lick of pollen from lilies causes fatal kidney damage in cats.

Said cat was not epileptic. Her kidneys were fried, so she lost her life at one year of age.

If you have cats in the house, that means no lilies, no matter how high up they are.
