Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?
Usually this just ends up with you looking like a moron btw
Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.
I genuinely believe myself and others are being so sincere and literal when we say TOUCH GRASS
I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.
So actually if you really wanted to use your analysis skills you'd realize that what people are annoyed about is the implication that there's never a story or creative work they can create that can escape people like you attempting to assign political meaning to it when they just don't want that. That in fact people's presumptions about life are not, in fact, political (at best they are cultural, which is not an inherently facet of politics). And that by you people arrogantly pushing this idea you are intruding on the fact that a lot of people use fiction as escapism from politics and insisting that "urm no actually your favourite cartoon actually has politics cause no human being is 100% unbiased" is in fact, supremely fucking annoying
"Stop having fun wrong, it ruins my fun when you have fun wrong, it's not enough for me to just scroll past the analysis I don't like, if anyone anywhere is saying that the cartoon exists in a political context that's undermining my enjoyment of it!"
That's you. That's what you sound like.
tumblr is the funniest social media site to go viral on
on tiktok people will quit their jobs after going viral once but on here not only can any post get 50k notes, but if it does theres nothing you can do with it. theres no monetization or any transferable skills at all. you just made a funny post and people liked it and thats the start and end of your career
you could say "i left the stove on" with no context and it might break containment on here and people start tagging it with ships and kins and theres no way to delete it forever unless staff gets involved. your mistake will never go away but your claim to fame will instantly
its like yes im the pineapple werewolf guy but no one outside of here and like 5 posts on reddit will ever know what that sentence means. i could jump on tiktok and no one would know me. no one on youtube or facebook. this is my little corner of the internet and i will die here before i give up that title and when i do know i lost nothing in the process

1994 FTM Trans Pride
Color photograph taken at the 1994 San Francisco Pride parade that depicts a group of trans men marching in a parade with a sign made by Loren Cameron that reads "FTM TRANS PRIDE."
The whole "Elvis sighting" thing is hilarious because, like, the first documented career Elvis impersonators began working over twenty years before the guy even died. I wonder why a public figure who has a whole industry of people who look and sound like him would generate an unusual number of posthumous sightings? It Is A Mystery.

if you dont decouple your drive to create from your desire for attention you will go insane. simple as. you will never feel satisfied b/c you will always want more and you will feel perpetually bitter that you did not get what you are “owed”
It’s an unpopular opinion but it is absolutely and completely true. I’ve never seen someone who creates for engagement happy with the engagement they get. I posit they can’t ever be happy that way because it will NEVER be enough
I agree with OP and Manka so very much.
You have to rest in your own desire to create.
But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.
It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.
And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.
the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.
big fan of the recent trend ive noticed of people adding flaming text of the original word over censored words in posts. do NOT sanitize the internet. say fuck with your chest
Shrek 2, while a cinematic masterpiece, is also an interesting look at queerness and comp het.
Fiona is married so it's time to reunite with her parents. But instead of marrying a prince, she's married to an ogre. Not just that, but she's also an ogre. (Yes everyone knew she would sometimes be an ogre but that was when she was a child, she didn't know she would be an ogre for the rest of her life, and besides once she met the right prince she would stop being an ogre. She was supposed to stop being an ogre.)
But okay they're both ogres. We can still ask about when they'll have children because even if they're ogres they can still have kids, right? That's what married princes and princesses do so naturally that's what everyone does. Even if ogres might not be great parents (I've heard that ogres eat their young, is that something you people do?) it's still something that should be discussed.
And okay you can stay in Fiona's childhood bedroom filled with all the reminders that hey, everyone thought she was just a princess and princesses marry princes. Her toys left out from the last time she played with them. The prince slays the ogre. The princess offers a token of gratitude for slaying the ogre. Fiona wrote Mrs. Fiona Charming a million times in her diary because what else was she supposed to grow up to be?
And Harold you have to fix this, your country can't be ruled by ogres. You were unfit to rule when you were a frog but I changed you, I made you better, I made you a prince. You know how this works. Think of your daughter's safety.
Shrek goes to the Fairy Godmother and oh honey, ogres don't live happily ever after. It's just not done. It hasn't happened in all of fairy tale history. You have to change the both of you to be happy. You have to present as a prince and a princess. It will be better. You'll fit in better that way. You'll be accepted that way.
i am well aware of the absolutely fucked up things eating disorders do to people’s brains, and i am sympathetic, but I still think acknowledging publicly that these celebrities are promoting looking emaciated on death’s door is important. Can you imagine being 13 and seeing this shit? Every celebrity event looks like a thinspo board, it’s awful.
People talk about women's bodies far too much; this is true. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be addressing the elephant in the room of insane weight loss and eds. it isnt fucking normal or healthy

I don't know who my intended audience is here, so whoever needs to hear this, I am begging you to learn to participate in conversations that are about things you aren't interested in.
Part of socializing and having friends is being a good listener even when you don't actually give a shit about the subject.
Your are hurting other people's feelings when you bluntly respond with "Anyway..." and then change the topic.
It can not always be about your preferred topic.
You are being rude. Yes, even if you are neurodivergent. You can be both autistic and rude.
I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old
Happy pride to those 5 seconds where Charlie Swan thought Jacob was coming out to him in the most insane way possible
I don't think I like the ml fandom's death grip is has on the idea of "true holders" of the miraculous. this isn't digimon, the miraculers aren't like the next digidestined with an empathic link to a creature that lives in their pocket watch or some shit, they were just given magic jewelry by a Guy™.
I think the obsession with "True Holders" as a concept is solely because it's just magical jewelry given by a Guy™ - I mean the show props up Marinette as the greatest Ladybug to ever grace the universe but do very little to justify it (especially when she has a three season straight canon losing streak to her name and the gap of improvement between "Origins" and "Stormy Weather" is so wide that 18 semi could drive through at the same time) and the Miraculous are supposedly these amazing life altering magical items that have literally shaped history but they never actually lived up to their hype. Tikki showed in "Kwami's Choice" that nothing's stopping her from leaving anytime she wants if she gets sick of Marinette; Hell, the only reason Marinette got Tikki in the first place is that she did something literally any other character in the show would do in her place. There has to be some sort of justification for the set up and "True Holders" is there to bridge the gap for them.
That and it also makes it easier to get rid of characters they don't like in salt fics by saying they weren't a "True Holder"
Honestly, I think the Movie does a good blend of the two - Tikki and Plagg ultimately chose Marinette and Adrien out of every Parisian in the cit because they connected with them on a metaphysically level, but it was still very much a randomized choice in the end
The True Holder thing is actually heavily founded in the Bee Miraculous. Promo materials called Zoé the 'True Holder' of the Bee, and so the malignant fan theory metastisized and now the patient is doomed.
Exactly why I'm soured with it. It's used less to say something about character A and more to gatekeep against character B.
I'm pretty sure the true holder thing became a widespread trope way before Zoé was introduced, though?
Anyway, true holders are not even something you'd particularly want to have. The Miraculous are based in amoral eldritch forces of the universe. Being really attuned to one of those doesn't necessarily make someone a good hero, or even a good person. To use the Fox as an example, Illusion can mean using trickery to avoid having to fight, but it can also mean lying for personal gain. But salt fic writers never think that far. Like, imagine if Saltinette kicks Alya off the team because she's not a true holder, only to realize that the actual true holder is Lila.
This is an angle I love playing with. In my Chloé goes back in time AU it's a problem they Chloé is too in tune with Destruction. Instead of the push-pull of Gentle Adrien and Metal Plagg, you have Plagg and Chloé trying to get the other to hold their beer.
I play with this too in my rewrite, where it's used as an explanation for how evil Miraculous wielders are able to exist, as well as why Guardians are a thing. Basically, the kwami have a fundamentally alien psychology. They don't care about their wielder's moral alignment, only how close that wielder is aligned to the energy the kwami represent. Lila is Team Miraculous OG Fox holder and Trixx actively prefers her over Alya, because Lila has no compunctions about lying. Nooroo's energy is all about empathy and connection, and he clicks well with Gabriel because Gabriel projects his own wants and beliefs on other people so hard he has no concept of where he ends and they begin. Yada yada you get the idea. Only Pollen really cares about morality due to her powers being all about order and structure, and even then there's the danger of going too far and becoming a zealous crusader who hunts down the nonbelievers. It's actually why the Bee Miraculous is given to Chloé—she doesn't care about having the moral high ground.
