Q. A. B. by jihnari and specifically this chapter of Walking Study in Demonology by ijustwanttodestroy are both great examples of the insane shit you can do on AO3
Closed Loop System by One_of_Them is told through a functional game of minesweeper made in ao3 and has multiple endings based on how you play the game
Two World Cup finalists from opposing teams in this fucking picture, this sport isn't real
Context for anyone who is wondering: Lamine Yamal's parents won an UNICEF raffle for a charity photoshoot in which Barça players posed with kids, and 5 month old Lamine happened to get 20yo Messi. Which is like. Literally insane

Holy shit. That's super impressive!!
I think the best most human thing in the world is strangers doing a silly thing together
Examples:
- guy at work "Yes, and -" ing the bit me and my coworker were doing where we pretended to be owners of a fantasy medieval tavern not minimum wage retail staff
- at the gay club when Die Young by Kesha came on and two hundred people, all dancing and drinking separately, jumped up and down to make the "- beat of the drums *STOMP STOMP*" as loud as possible
- person who watched me stomp round the beach singing a made up song about breakfast foods to name a cat after and suggested more breakfast foods that would be good cat names
- guy who started a dance off with everyone across the road while waiting for the lights to change
- very tiny girl at the pharmacy interviewing everyone in the queue and every single one of us in turn sat down and answered this toddler's questions like we were on Letterman

wizard college is going to kill me I swear to god. I just saw someone without a component satchel reach into their pocket and pull out a handful of LOOSE tapioca to use as a substitute for blood in their fell ritual. and it worked. I've never been so fucking mad.

I'm sure that I'm far from the the first person to notice that this line in Wintersmith (2006) was published just a year before Pratchett's 2007 announcement of his posterior cortical atrophy diagnosis.
Out of nowhere, Roland, a boy who in this book also happened to acquire specific additional traits like glasses and a love of books, suddenly has a deep, angry hatred of anything which takes memories.
The above line hit me like a damn train, and then I skipped back and reread the sequence as Roland and the Feegles arrived and realised that the Underworld Roland is in is filled with confused old people being parasitised by 'bogles' which steal their memories and identities. It's not remotely subtle but also heartbreaking in how understated it is. The strangeness of the woman dragging a cardboard box is nightmarish. This is actual horror.
Terry. Oh my god. Sir. This is one of your children's books and you brought this here. You brought this here because you trusted and respected your young readers with something so hard and personal. This is Terry writing down his deepest fear, in a children's story, the safest place to put the most frightening things you can think of.
And this sequence doesn't have a lot to do with the climax of Wintersmith where it's found. The monsters in the Underworld could have been anything at all. I was expecting stuff from the Dungeon Dimensions, not the most personal expression of vulnerability I have read in any Discworld book yet. It didn't need to be here, but Terry needed to write it. Good god. I'm going to have a little cry about this.
Roland isn't summoning a sword, is he, Terry? He's summoning something very light which fits a boy who is better suited for using paper to assert himself. Something mightier than the sword?
"A weapon that chopped away everything that clung and lied and stole"
"Bogles scribbled themselves into existence"
This sequence is so deeply, openly personal I feel like I just read Sir Terry's diary. GNU.

Holy fuck
This works best if you keep windows closed.
Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.
This was discovered as a more effective design during the 2020 US west coast fires.

A better more efficient and odor eliminating homemade air purifier than just taping a 20x20x1 filter to a box fan. Sometimes you need to
If you live on the west coast of the United States, fire season is coming and this is vital.
We’ve been using one, and they’re great. Might try to make the double filter version this year.
theyve been doing a bunch of studies on this during the pandemic and this design is best! 4 filters and a shroud to optimize flow rate.

"This 14-year-old is the most powerful person in the WORLD but really... he just wants to be a normal middle schooler...!" is absolutely not new to anime but USUALLY it's all a power-fantasy. It's humble-bragging. It's an awkward marriage of relatability and bus-window-day-dreaming. "Oh MAN, I just SAVED the WORLD 😱😏🌍💥but I still have a MATH TEST tomorrow 📏✖️AND I have a CRUSH 😊 (who doesn't know I'm the coolest badass in the world because that's a secret!! 😜)"
Which is all to say once again that no one is doing it like Mob Psycho 100. Because Mob is unambiguously the most powerful entity in the world and he goes "Okay but that's not very interesting. Being powerful isn't a personality. I'm gonna try to improve myself in ways that matter."
The evil spirit on his shoulder spends all series going "PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!" and Mob says, "No thank you. Do you want to help me with my math homework?" and the second most powerful person in the world comes up to say, "We are a supreme species of super-human better than everyone else!" and Mob says, "You sound stunted as a person. Maybe try working a customer service job?" and a classmate will go, "Why not use your powers to be popular?" and Mob says, "Psychic powers don't make you popular. Do you want to see me lift this 10kg dumbbell? I've been working on that."
And it's not a joke or a bit. And it's not the narrative giving a wink-wink-nudge-nudge to the audience like 'Sure Mob SAYS he's not more important than anyone else but WE know how secretly cool epic he is for his powers 😏'
Like Mob or Reigen or whoever it is in the moment says, "Maybe you'll learn something about yourself working a customer service job" and the narrative turns to the audience and says, 'You too might learn something from a customer service job. Just a thought.'
Mob Psycho is a power fantasy for young teens about how if you apply yourself earnestly and put yourself out there and value everyone equally and stick to your compassionate principles, then you too can foster a healthy and growing support network of people who care about you and who will help guide you as you figure out the kind of person you want to become. The psychic powers parts are just in service to that narrative.
I get what you’re saying and I appreciate it I really do but if I wanted to guide someone into being less of a stunted misanthrope with a loathing for humanity then a customer service job would be the last thing I would recommend

I've never read Homestuck but there's a type of media that I call "a Homestuck" and I think it's a useful categorization. The main criteria are:
long enough that the time investment is a serious barrier to entry
irrevocably changes your personality
brings something genuinely unique to the table. there is no real substitute for reading/playing/watching it in its entirety
Fate/Stay Night is a Homestuck. Worm is a Homestuck. When They Cry is a Homestuck.
Undertale has cultural impact similar to a Homestuck at first glance, but the fact that it's a pretty short and accessible game means that you don't get the particular mix of sunk cost fallacy and an intimate experience with a piece of media that results in you needing to connect with others who have already put in the time investment. You can buy your friends Undertale and expect them to play it if they're not too busy; telling a friend to read Homestuck is giving them a quest that, if accepted, will spark an odyssey. to read someone's Homestuck is an act of love without true equivalent.
JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, especially if you decide to get up to date with the Manga.
Oh my god, you're right.
I think Mareep is the perfect Pokémon equivalent for the Lamb! For one, they're both sheep. And the evolution from Mareep to Ampharos kinda gives off the same energy as 'slayer becomes the dragon' from the game. Plus, after getting the Red Crown, it's like the Lamb's permanently in Mega Evolution mode — which I think is super cute.
