It breaks my #heart sometimes when people talk to me about things such as "How long before I can get sponsors like you Mr. James so I can travel for free!" Or "Oh. You don't have enough followers for me to invest my time into you". Every dancer, every lifter, every artist...we are like a #pastor, and our friends/supporters are our #congregation. I find it often that many people lose #motivation or get upset when their stuff don't get enough "attention" through "likes" & "comments" when that wasn't even the main reason why they started in the first place. Does that mean you stop believing in #God, because not enough people show up to your church? Don't give other people the power to dictate if you are legit or not. I rather have 100 followers who all keep up with the things I do vs 100,000 followers who only follow me when I take a booty pic/tit pic so thank you to all those who read my posts and tell me how it impacts your life. 475 lbs #Squat 285 lbs #benchpress 365 lbs #benchbuddy @ a fat 152 lbs For about a week, my joints were aching...it either means I'm getting old, or I am finally getting strong. On a side note, something I dislike about powerlifters (or talented individuals in their field) belittling newer lifters. Like, let them learn. Why does their "stupid" decisions infurate folks so much? Eventually they will learn. A lot of people noticed or ask me why I bow before my lifts. Well the simple answer to that, would be...what feelings and thoughts are evoked within you when you see me bow? I bow to respect. Because after judging for a few years I know what it feels like to set a side your own personal time to make sure 100+ or so lifters can "lift". I bow, because the people who taught me how to powerlift and associate with taught me better than your coaches. #quest #usaplga #usaplmn I bow, because I represent a lost race that most people don't even know about. What kind of impression do I want the world to have, if I'm the first "#Hmong" person they see? I bow, because there are alot of people associated with me. How do I want my friends and family to look like, when thousands of people are fixated on me? I bow because I represent my country. Are other countries the only country that can express respect and gratitude towards others in this game? And most inportantly, I bow for me. Everyone loves to get loud and crazy. For all purposes do so...but bowing...puts my lift into perspective. It gives me time to center myself before I unleash my inner spirit animal and even if I don't get 3 white lights. So after feeling like a train just hit me, I ended up as your 2018 66 kg #USAPL equipped open national champion! A 17 lb squat PR (617 lbs), 22 lb bench PR (424 lbs), and a 573 lb deadlift(3 yr curse still in progress). In general, I can't complain since I haven't PRed in my bench and deadlift in 3 years, so I shouldn't be too greedy. #Strength was definitely not an issue, but every competition brings its own demons and the pacing was something I did not prepare for as I love to take my sweet time when I train. If it wasn't for all the help I received in the last year or so, I cannot say that I'd be standing on the 1st place platform vs some of the best drug free lifters in the United States. Just want to thank @riahgoeshamm, @hinz_93kg, @jlmarcotte_, @jofunkngruven, Gary Edwards, and @gatabarbell for handling me today! @equippedexcellence for programming me to 1st place! @drdathdc at the Chirospot @nouthxia @iron_sups quest nutrition for keeping my body in shape to not break under such weights. @usa_powerlifting_mn for the love, and @usapowerlifting for the opportunity to express myself on the platform @american.strength and all the crew members there (way too many to name but you know who I am talking about!) Don't be fooled by what you see and if your eye causes you to sin, gauge it out and throw it away...for if you can't believe what you see before you...it is better that you can feel the terror I exert when you see me perform. What is that presence? What is that aura? He is so small, but why is it, that he is the only one I can feel the most in this room? #Intimidation? #Fear? #Intensity? #Extreme? Why is he so #relentless? Yes Lebron James is probably going to be a better overall player than one of my heroes, #MichaelJordan, one day, statistic wise...but when I see him play, I do not fear him. Michael Jordan on the other hand. When I see him play, I can see his unyielding altitude. No doubt in his game play when his team needs him. And most importantly, you fear his presence, because you know what he is capable of, and you know he won't choke. (Come at me, MJ 4lyfe) My point is...the one that wins in the end doesn't have to be the biggest. The strongest. The most statistical sound individual. The one that wins is the one that puts the most fear in you when you face him...and the one that wins...is the one that believes he will no matter the odds. Let me give you a tip on how to make your cheat #deadlift (#sumodeadlift) more cheat. Cut an inch off your pull...by pulling yourself to the bar, as if you want to get underneath the barbell. The moment my hands touch the bar, the barbell is no longer straight, a constant pull, A.K.A. pulling the slack out of the bar. As I stand up and keep my chest up, the slack is the strongest, and I wait till it literally tells me it no longer wants to stay on the floor, so I allow it to meet me in the air. So yeah...the heavier it gets, the easier for me to set up my #technique. There so much that goes on when I set up to pull...I'm not #genetically strong by any means...but I make technique...a #strength because I lack the #power to pull it, so yeah...call me a cheater all you want, because this is only one of the many things that goes on when I pull and if you can't do what I'm doing...then I guess that makes me #strong huh? People say that #powerlifting and #bboying is just a #hobby, but I beg to differ. Sometimes I can't #express the way I feel all the time, but in the #gym, on the #platform, on the #dancefloor, I can be me. Each way of #life has taught me #discipline if I want to be better. If I want to lift more or dance better, I need to take care of my body. Make sure I eat, sleep, and drink more #responsibly and if you don't, your lifts and dance moves will remind you what you need to work on. I have met some of the most #impressive people, who now are my best #friends and #family through the #ironbug and #dancefloor. I have #inspired many people to continue doing the #impossible because I continue to "Set #Expectations, And #Exceed Them". When people call this a hobby, it is because they want something out of it. $, fame, attention...that #drives them. Thats why they quit when people don't "Like" their posts. Its never been about any of that stuff because I always thought, WHAT CAN I DO for the sport? Not what it could do for me. It has already taught me how to be me. Showed me how to #express my most inner #feelings and most importantly, it taught me how to be a #man. It's not what you look at. Its what you see. "The moment I wake up I'm thinking about my workout, even if its not today. How did I sleep? How does my body feel right now compared to the way it feels when I'm at my strongest? Do I need to stretch and foam roll? Chiro or massage? Don't have $ for it? I'll just learn it and teach it someone so they can do it on me. What will I eat? How much water do I need to drink? Who should I avoid? Who should I conversate with? What negative thoughts do I have that will cause me to be weak? What other activities do I have on today that will cause me to be not at peak conditions? Do I need to quit my job because it is affecting my strength? Is this workout enough? Do I need to do more than is prescribed? Whats my competition doing? I'll probably do more, and if I can't I'll just get it in now, I'll probably get it in at 2 or 3 am later..." I did this for 14 years straight because I was tired of people tell me I'm too short...too small. Too weak. Worthless. The secret is you first have to love yourself and do everything in your power, to overcome your own weakness. Those who are more #talented than you, who have more #genetics than you, who have an easier time with life cause they never been broken and #homeless before. I'm most thankful for them...because they don't know what its like to be weak, to starve, to have nothing. #Quest Where it all started for me...where it will all end for me. (*Long post-#Teamquest on the podium) 3 weeks left before nationals...and everytime I close my eyes...I keep seeing the lights beaming on me...I can see the chalk flying in the air...my senses are at the highest level in this moment, cause everything seems to move in slow motion or is it just the way I perceive time atm? It starts off with the knee wraps...oh god I hated the knee wraps when I first started, but Brooks Conway, as he was wrapping my knees said, "No one gets used to knee wraps". "Oh!", I thought. So I had to love, how much I hate the knee wraps? Got cha.. After that is the expensive suits we wear...goodness, the scars on my arms and legs each time is fairly crazy so its funny when people say they can get that strong too if they have equipement, not knowing that there is a price to pay for your strength and that is at the expense of torture in a sense. I mean who would even think this is fun? Enjoyable? Well...the most satisfying part about equipped lifting is when you lift...everyone lifts with you. When you take a breath...everyone breathes with you in anticipation of the lift because its not guaranteed you can get your opener, even if you can do it 10x easy.The person wrapping your knees, all your friends who also know the pain you are currently in, your coach standing behind you...and the most satisfying part...is the emotions you share at the end of the meet with all those who helped made your lifts happen because you know, it was a group effort.
