controversial opinion
you are not better than fat people!
even REALLY fat people!
even fat people who donāt put a lot of time into their appearance!
even fat people who wear clothes you think are unflattering!
your appearance literally does not make you better than a fat person. you are not more fun to hang out with because youāre not fat. you are not funnier, smarter, or more interesting by virtue of not being fat. you arenāt harder working, you donāt have more self-control, you donāt have your life more together.
the only difference between you and fat people is that they have to put up with a lot of harassment, discrimination, exclusion, and other bullshit that you donāt even think about.
try not to add to it.
Everyone adding ābut i DO have more self control than a fat person!!ā is a self righteous piece of shit who 1) knows literally nothing about fat science and 2) has been blocked. Fat people deserve respect. You have not earned the privilege you have over fat people; itās been given to you by an unfair hierarchical society and you fuckers walking around thinking itās a meritocracy so you can feel special need to get a fucking clue.
Yes, this applies to fat people who arenāt trying to lose weight!! And fat people who eat more food than you do!! You are not better than them and acting like you are just makes you an ass.
Iāve just gone through and blocked another round of assholes from the notes, and Iād just like to add, as a disabled person with a long list of chronic illnesses, that if you think youāre better than someone else because you think youāre healthier than they are, you are vile.
Your health is not a reward for being a wonderful person, itās pure fucking chance. It is fucking evil to think youāre superior to someone else because theyāre suffering in ways you arenāt. Also, not all fat people are unhealthy and not all unhealthy people are fat, but even the fattest people whose health problems are connected to their weight are just as worthwhile, interesting, fun to be around, and worthy of dignity as you are. You are not a better person just because your size or health status is different.
You just have the privilege of being catered to in ways fat people arenāt. Donāt think for a moment that you deserve this special treatment or that fat people deserve the harassment, abuse, discrimination, and exclusion our society systemically aims at fat people.
Also, to everyone who reblogged this post with some bullshit like āYeah if youāre nice to the fatties they can lose weight more easily because theyāll obsess over food less!!ā⦠Like Iām sorry but youāre part of the problem.
No one owes you weight loss. And the idea that all fat people are āobsessed with foodā and thatās why theyāre fat is contradictory to the science. Itās none of your fucking business why or how the people you know are fat, and itās ridiculous to act like people need a valid āreasonā to be fat, but itās also really insulting to reduce fat people to the one-dimensional caricatures you see on tv.
Bodies naturally come in different sizes and shapes. Always have, always will.
Thin bodies are not actually a default baseline, theyāre just currently rewarded because being thin is a marker of economic status and itās privileged within white supremacy, ableism/eugenics, and other axes of our disturbingly hierarchial culture.
Stop fucking acting like people should all be trying their hardest to be thin (even if you allowĀ āexceptionsā for people withĀ āgood reasonsā!).
People exist in all shapes and sizes, and thatās ok and normal and not a problem to be solved.
Start recognizing that other people are human beings who deserve dignity and respect and kindness (not pity!) regardless of your fucked-up impulses to enforce hierarchies youāve been taught by a misogynistic, white supremacist, ableist capitalist culture.
Thatās your baggage and you need to deal with it yourself instead of inflicting it on others.
āIt is fucking evil to think youāre superior to someone else because theyāre suffering in ways you arenāt.ā SCREAM THIS FROM THE ROOFTOPS
Nothing brings me more joy than people learning from history and then modernizing it up a bit.
Like you wanna grow your hair long? Stop washing it so often and brush it more to keep it clean. Your hair will be way healthier too. And stop cutting it (and use a boar bristle brush, itāll work better)*for straight hair!!!! Does not work on curly hair!!!
You want to keep cool in the summer? Out with the polyester and in with the linen, cotton, and wool. Natural fibers are going to keep you cooler because theyāre literally made to breathe
You want to preemptively stop the underwire in your bra from poking through? Thereās a very simple embroidery stitch you can do that the Edwardians used to do to stop their corset boning from coming through.
We donāt have to just learn from our ancestors mistakes, we can learn from their stakes too
[image: comment by Terri Juanette: "When I learned (months and months ago) that shifts and camisoles were worn under the garments that had boning, I began wearing camisoles under my underwire bras. OMG, what a game changer! They no longer hurt!"]
You ever think about how unified humanity is by just everyday experiences? Tudor peasants had hangnails, nobles in the Qin dynasty had favorite foods, workers in the 1700s liked seeing flowers growing in pavement cracks, a cook in medieval Iran teared up cutting onions, a mom in 1300 told her son not to get grass stains on his clothes, some girl in the past loved staying up late to see the sun rise.
there are scriptures all over the world painstakingly crafted hundreds of years ago with paw prints and spelling mistakes or drawings covering up mistakes. a bunch of teenage girls 2000 years ago gathered to walk around their hometown, getting fast food and laughing with their friends. two friends shared blankets before people lived in houses. a mother ran a fine comb through her childās hair and told it to stop squirming sometime in the 1000s. there are covered up sewing mistakes in couture dresses from the 1800s, some poor roman burnt their food so well past recognition that they just buried the entire pot. there are broken dishes hidden in gardens of people no one even remembers anymore
the relationship between girls and the fantasy series they read when young is so special nothing comes close to it
so I got into grad school today with my shitty 2.8 gpa and the moral of the story is reblog those good luck posts for the love of god

Hey so
the last time I reblogged this post right before I got a great job, in a permanent work-from-home position, with benefits, retirement, and a salary literally 3x what I was making before, doing something I really like.Ā
So you know.Ā
This might be the real one, yāall.
Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), poem 85 from āThe Gardenerā, 1914 Translated by the author from the original Bengali. New York: The Macmillan Company.
[text ID: Who are you, reader, reading my poems an hundred years hence!
I cannot send you one single flower from this wealth of the spring, one single streak of gold from yonder clouds.
Open your doors and look abroad.
From your blossoming garden gather fragrant memories of the vanished flowers of an hundred years beffore.
In the joy of your heart may you feel the living joy that sang one spring morning, sending its glad voice across an hundred years. end ID]

you donāt get good at doing something by notĀ doing it
you get good at doing something by doing it badly and learning how to do it better
You donāt learn from success, you learn from failure how to achieve success.
you see, the thing is, i hate failure.
in order to find success, you must first submit yourself to the mortifying ordeal of being kinda crap at something
everyone hates failure, but some people find it utterly intolerable
the key to that is usually to figure out what it is about failure that you find too intolerable to stomach, and try to deal with that aspect first
for instance is it being SEEN failing? okay, practice without an audience and try to do as much of your failing in private as you can
is it how the feeling of failure feeds into your sense some self-loathing? try therapy techniques for mitigating self-loathing in general first
do you hate the actual sight of your failed attempts? put them somewhere you donāt have to look at them
basically, find ways to make failing less awful by mitigating the impact of it on your happiness, even if those are things that some people will tell you shouldnāt matter. do what you gotta do to get stuff done
What I love about this, though, is that the little nails will become an outline of where the water was. It will trace the shape, show someone later what was there once upon a time. It will be a testament to how much this guy wanted to capture the amazing things he saw and experienced, and though it will never truly keep it, it will hold a memory, something that in itself is beautiful and worthy of experience. We cannot describe the indescribable, but we can trace its outline, give some idea of what we experienced.
I hate all this wireless shit I donāt want to charge anything ever and I fucking love wires
Several months ago I was in a meeting with our Apple account rep talking about various things and one of the questions we asked him was about whether we were able to order wired keyboards & mice (specifically for large orders like entire computer labs) because wireless is a logistical nightmare for shared computing resources that get used by hundreds of people a day. And he was genuinely baffled why we would ask about this.
For those unfamiliar with the Apple Magic Mouse, this is how it charges:
I would also like to mention Lithium mining (which is essential for making rechargeable batteries) is responsible for the coup in Bolivia as well as deadly pollution to surrounding wildlife!
Please please please if you must buy a new electronic, buy a plug in version if possible. Not only are they more powerful when you can plug them in, they are usually more dependable and last longer, since thereās no battery to overcharge and fry.
In a more general, society-wide, view that doesnāt focus on individual consumer choices, itās good to program āIf it runs on batteries, it isnāt sustainableā into your brain, community and environmental activism.
Batteries rely on finite minerals and mining them is very bad for the environment, particularly for land that communities near the mines have to live on, but also for the larger ecosystem. So things like electric cars are not the cool sustainable answer people think they are. A smart inventor may come along, but where we are now, āgreenā batteries do not exist.
I also wanna be clear that we will always need some batteries, because some people need an electric wheelchair or a pacemaker etc. and sacrificing the lives of disabled people and people with heart conditions is not an option weāre ever considering (and if you are: unfollow me, block me, consider not existing). But that is different from the limitless expansion of battery run devices we see today.
We will also need less electronics in general because microchips also rely on finite supplies of minerals and mining them is very bad for the environment, but that problem is less extreme than the battery problem is about to get due to the rise of electric cars. But itās good to keep it in mind.
thank god for urbandictionary or Iād never know what anyone was talking aboutĀ
