WARNING! : this was originally meant to be a short post on twitter, so please understand that im using simplistic language, but i understand there are more nuances!
on one side we have The Father whos so defined by his grief, adopts a Child even when he really shouldn't, as a way to "save" them, is so stubborn on his ways, and ends up failing said Child in many ways including The Most Important Way
on the other side, The Child who had a complicated life before, but remained (mostly) innocent until they were exposed to The Horrors by The Father's attempt at rescue, and ultimately died due to the The Father's tunnel vision
The Father is then once more fundamentally changed by this second enormous grief, and he keeps on living with this terrible regret, holding on to this image of The Child at their best
and then finally, communication with the lost Child; and The Child is nothing like The Father's memory of them, not because it wasnt true but because death changed The Child, made them much more bitter and justifiably angry >at< The Father
(theres more stuff to say but im really hungry and at work so i dont have the mind to write it right now :P)
