same annoyance as when people call any young wild salamander with frills and gills an axolotl.

actually, wild axolotls are only found in (1) singular lake in Mexico. if you're not currently at lake xochimilco, you absolutely did Not see an axolotl, you saw a regular juvenile salamander of another species.

#do i love axolotls? so so much. am i still infuriated when people insist they saw one in their local creek USA? absolutely #sunny speaks #since im already annoyed lol might as well yell at the void abt this too #also: salamanders essentially have a tadpole phase like frogs. axolotls just happen to stay in that phase as adults.#that's why they look just like youngins of other species!#also -- pretty much all captive axolotls are interbred with tiger salamanders which are SUPER common #it's not weird to make the mistake at first but once you know it's annoying

annoying pet peeve: who the hell popularized kuru on tiktok???

why are so many people running around hissing that you'll get kuru from any old act of cannibalism??

kuru is NOT "found in the average adult brain", it is an EXTINCT prion disease that was only ever endemic to ONE region and still yet just one population in that region (papa new guinea).

also, again, it's been extinct for two decades!!

prion diseases do in fact still exist (mad cow, creutzfeldt-jakob, etc) but kuru isn't one of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!! god.

if you're going to fear monger about scary brain prions you should at least pick one that still exists. jesus

people truly get so phenomenally pissed off about others tagging their art with character names or not realizing that something was a Deeply Personal Vent Piece and like. while I get how frustrating that is I do feel that if you can't take the thought of someone not getting your work (and see it as an intentional personal slight against you, The Artist) then you simply should not be attempting to share it with an audience of thousands of people who have literally zero context beyond briefly seeing a picture on their dash
