fun fact: debates about if being transgender is a choice or not are irrelevant, because the fundamental truth is of bodily autonomy - a right that should never be seen as conditional or requiring a suitable, immutable condition.
people who are trans deserve the right to transition, not because itâs a medical treatment or because dysphoria can be classified as a mental illness but because weâre human beings who should be allowed to do whatever the fuck we want to our own bodies! this is a basic human right!
I love finding someone who can sum up how I feel about something and put into words what I have as of yet been unable to
Men made decisions to rape with fellow rapists. They decided sexual abuse and torture were bonding experiences.
Language matters. Stop removing men from their active role in raping children.
Yes, this. A stunning number of people will default to "because it's illegal." Teaching an intro-level bioethics course will demonstrate real fucking fast that a lot of the population just lets legality stand in for morality.
you gotta excise every ounce of reaction from you and use your head n brains
This is why I think itâs actually good to take a philosophy class or two in college. It teaches you how to reason out an argument AND anticipate counter arguments.
I am printing these words out and gluing them backwards onto my forehead
the idea that disabled people are coddled is incredible to me, most of us cant get accommodations at all, lots of us are homeless and many of us die from lack of support.
and the disabled people who are lucky not to be homeless still get disability accommodations denied, live in areas where accommodations for people their age + their disability severity together are treated as anomalies (or shoved into care homes or threatened to be shoved into care homes) or are forever treated as "adult dependents" meaning their insurance will forever be fucked
ah. too real :(
[image description: grey text on white background from tumblr user @librarycards that reads:
"disabled people are required to apply for benefits they are in too much pain to physically apply for and work jobs
they are too disabled to work and are trapped in homes with people who abuse and neglect them and not
allowed to marry the people they love and not allowed to learn
because schools refuse to accomodate them and not allowed to have fun bc
ableds believe they don't deserve it and abused in healthcare settings bc doctors believe they deserve to die and and and" the text ends there. end image description]
Insane to me that literally preschoolers learn things like "sometimes your experience is different from someone else's experience! Sometimes what you like isn't what your friend likes! Our differences make us all special and colorful and unique!"
And then 20-somethings with an internet connection will willfully unlearn this and post comments like "why is op saying 'everyone enjoy an orange today!'? I'm actually allergic to oranges and I dont like apples or bananas and I dont really want any fruit plus im not hungry right now and I dont have time or money to go buy groceries or transport to get there and the store is closed because its Christmas day plus there's a big hurricane so I dont really understand? Op this doesnt apply to me I dont get it? You need to apologize for trying to hurt me with this. I could have died. Why didn't you say something true about me instead?" and then they expect not to be told to shut the fuck up.
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
HEY.
HEY YALL.
USAMERICAN DEMOCRATS SUCCESSFULLY REMOVED EVERY ANTITRANS RIDER FROM EVERY FUNDING BILL
Spread the fucking word because LORD knows democrats fucking suck at spreading it themselves and will fail once again to inform their base
But just in case youâre sitting there going âthe Dems arenât doing anything,â THEY ARE
IT IS JUST SLOW
AND MOSTLY INVISIBLE
BUT THEY ARE
The people who should be angriest about university students using AI to cheat on assignments, by the way, are people with the various disabilities that make either presenting in class or doing their work in class inordinately difficult. A lot of educators moved away from classroom presentations or cold-calling students out of consideration for the fact that speaking aloud was difficult for their students. We also know that handwriting has become increasingly difficult for many students.
However, since an astonishing proportion of typed work is now fake, it's become common consensus that the only way to know if students are doing the work of the class is to hear it from the students' own mouths or to see the work being done. There doesn't seem to be a good way around this. I certainly don't know one, and I've thought long and hard about it. But it has a predictable and disproportionate effect on some students, and those students should be mad about it.
(cw: sexual assault) the pedophile -as it is understood outside of academic circles- is a mythical creature. the idea that a complete stranger who kidnaps and sexually assaults kids is their biggest threat is absolutely insane; not one case of CSA (child sexual assault) in a hundred looks like that. CSA is committed almost uniformly by adults in a preestablished position of authority (such as family, family friends, clergy, or teachers) and in a way that a victim who doesn't know what sexual assault looks like will be left unsure what happened to them. without knowing concretely how sex and sexuality works, would you be able to tell the difference between molestation and the various other forms of unwanted physical touch and abuse kids are regularly subjected to? would it even seem that different? but parenthood and the submission of youth to adults as institutions are threatened by the reality of CSA. adults need to justify their ownership of children through an imagined outside threat constantly held at bay through their diligence. the truth - that putting yourself in such a position of authority over children directly enables abuse (including sexual abuse) - is thrown aside.
i donât know where the post this makes me think of is, but the general idea of it was that children arenât properly taught how consent works, because if they did have a functioning framework to understand all the ways in which theyâre exploited by adultsâand continue to be exploited as adults, in different ways!âit would pose a serious threat to the social order, which is, i think, highly relevant here
When my clients say âbut my mom hit me first!â and I have to say âlegally, sheâs allowed to.â As long as she doesnât leave bruises, my old judge used to say.
âMy dad made me give him my car. Thatâs mine, I bought it with money from my job.â And I have to say: âYouâre a minor. Under the law, you donât own property, your guardians do.â
When they say, âMy mom is watching everything I do, she takes my phone every night, she made her boyfriend take the door off my roomâ and I have to say, with gritted fucking teeth, âYou donât have a legal right to privacy from your parent.â
You can enter into contracts, but all of them are voidable under grounds of infancy â except student loans, for some fucking reason.
You canât leave. Your parents have the right to force you to come back.
This is not theoretical. I have seen every one of these things (except contract voiding) play out time and time again in a courtroom, with real life consequences: juvenile detention. Inpatient facilities. GPS ankle monitor. Community service. Kids are horrified to hear how little power and protection they have. And Iâve never gotten over my horror.
Student loans is not the only contract a child can enter but not void: Marriage is another.
My sister has worked in sex trafficking law for around 10 years and a the general pattern is "if they're an adult, they were trafficked by their partner. If they're a child, they were trafficked by their parent". And one of, if not THE biggest way children are trafficked(in the USA at least) is via forced marriage. Up and until 2019, this was legal in every state in the US. It still is in all but I think 8, as of 2025.
My sister drafted and fought for multiple bills to end child marriage in various US states and people fought TOOTH and NAIL against passing them. Because most states, while they allow child marriage, require the parents' consent. The child's isn't necessary, but the parents' is. The idea that parents will always have their child's best interests at heart and always have the last say in anything regarding the child's life is one that many people would not abandon in any way.
And, since a child cannot enter a legally binding agreement with a lawyer, they cannot file to get divorced, file for a restraining order, or go to a shelter for victims of domestic or sexual abuse. Running away from an abusive marriage makes them a runaway child that, legally, has to be returned to their legal guardian who, in the case of a child being married to an adult, is their abuser.
itâs funny how many expectations are put on the disabled and chronically ill. if any abled person experienced even 7% of our symptoms, they would be going straight to the ER and say they couldnât do something because they have to recover. yet when they talk to a chronically ill person, the expectations are so high. âyou should be managing that by now. why donât you feel better? you canât expect everyone to feel bad for you and support you 24/7â like yall would be crying and begging to go to the ER if you had one of our symptoms. we get told to get over it and stop being an inconvenience
theres no fucking snow outside
Itâs 84 fucking degrees outside
The Jake Paul fight against Anthony Joshua gotta be a prime example of how desperately conservative wealthy douchebags like JP cling to the fantasy that they are physically the strongest, toughest winners of society. In what fucking world would a man like AJ lose to someone 5" shorter and 20 pounds lighter with no professional heavyweight experience. JP is convinced he can pay for the experience of beating someone at the top of their field, because that's what he wanted out of this. He paid for the ability to say "I can beat Anthony Joshua." He genuinely forgot there is something called the love of the game, and if this look in Joshua's eyes ain't it idk what is
He got to live the fantasy of being the "find out" part of racists "fucking around". The dream, the moment.
harm reduction saves lives.
it's a good thing when someone shoots up with a clean needle.
it's a good thing when someone carries Narcan, whether they use drugs themselves or not.
it's a good thing when someone switches from using laced drugs to clean drugs.
it's a good thing when someone starts using only one drug at a time.
it's a good thing when someone goes on medication assisted treatment like suboxone, methadone, or amphetamines.
it's a good thing when someone reduces their spending on substances, or the frequency of their drug use.
it's a good thing when someone gets regular tests for STIs.
it's a good thing when someone is using with friends instead of using alone.
people who use drugs don't have to be abstinent to take better care of ourselves. any positive change we make around our substance use should be encouraged and accepted, never stigmatized or dismissed!
