I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.

Given all of the folks in the notes who are realizing how much they miss rainbow capitalism, I think it's fair to say that it was actually never a completely empty gesture. It wasn't much of a gesture, but it did mean something. Even if that something was "people accept LGBTQ folks enough that it's more profitable to be seen supporting them than not," it was something. It might have been a barometer, but barometers are useful tools. And gestures are rarely entirely empty, even if they don't look like much.

random PSA, I know a lot of people use duckduckgo as a Google alternative search engine, but it always kind of annoyed me when I was using it because it felt like No Name Brand Google

I have switched to using Startpage.com and vastly prefer it. for one thing, instead of displaying an "AI summary" at the top of the search results (unless you turn it off, yes I know), it displays the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article, with link, whenever it finds one that's relevant.

also a waaayyyyy better sense of design than duckduckgo
