I’m probably going to get hate for this, but i’m tired of seeing people with ASPD romanticizing "free cruelty".

Let’s be real: having ASPD doesn’t force you to be cruel for no reason.

​If you have ASPD and you’re a complete asshole, then you’re just an asshole.

The disorder might explain why you don't feel guilt or why you’re impulsive, but it doesn't hold a gun to your head and make you go out of your way to ruin someone’s day.

Conscience and conduct are two different things. Plenty of people with this diagnosis manage to exist without being toxic, if you can't, that’s a personality flaw, not a symptom.

I’m just tired of seeing people use their lack of empathy as a justification for being a bottom-tier human being.

I know it’s hard sometime. I deal with the same impulses, the same problems. But having those urges isn’t the same as acting on them. Not feeling empathy doesn’t remove the ability to recognize harm and choose not to cause it especially when its just free and without reasons.

Cognitive empathy exists for a reason, you can understand that an action is shitty without needing to feel the other person's pain.

If you choose to be a jerk because you think your diagnosis justifies it, you’re just proving everyone’s worst stereotypes right.

Lack of empathy isn’t a free pass. If you understand something is harmful and do it anyway, that’s a choice. You can have zero feelings and still have enough logic to not be a nightmare to everyone around you.

One is a neurodivergence, the other is a choice.

A frustration I have with the neurodiversity movement (distinct from neurodiverse people) is that the culture tends to actually be quite exclusionary toward people with disorders and disabilities that are not autism and ADHD, especially if those conditions are stigmatised, ala schizophrenia, intellectual disabilities, or personality disorders.

It is actually not all that uncommon to run into a someone with a checklist designed around defining autism, which happens to exclude everybody who has a neurological issue but is not autistic. You know, "schizophrenia is a mental illness, not a neurodivergence, because it onsets in your teens and twenties (usually), but a neurodivergence has to be present from birth," "what about foetal alcohol syndrome?" "well that's caused by observable environmental factors, while a neurodivergence is naturally occurring."

This sometimes is so bad that it's a definition of autism that excludes the autistic. To be clear, people we now call high support needs, who we used to call low functioning, were originally just called "autistic." Now a bunch of low support needs people, who we used to call high functioning, who were originally told they didn't have autism but "Asperger's Syndrome, a kind of autism, but not really 'autism,'" have built up this cultural re-definition of autism that tells those original autistic people that they actually have "comorbidities."

This would be an irrelevant difference, except the "comorbidities" concept is often used to alienate high support needs autistic people from these spaces and conversations because the tone around "comorbidity" is "well you're not really discussing autism, and thus not discussing neurodivergence, but rather intellectual disability, which is not a neurodivergence because" and here they pull out their fucking checklist, which just to reiterate, is a DSM criteria definition of autism.

It's like if Aspie Supremacists were given the keys to a very watered-down mad liberation movement. The post-communist purge Mattachine Society of disabled rights.

This seems ridiculous to most autistic/ADHD people because you guys don't run into it, I think, but this is such a common experience when you want to discuss any other condition in these spaces. It's why the neurodiversity movement hasn't fucking achieved anything but mad liberation and broader disabled activism has, because the neurodiversity movement has this really passionate, vocal minority within the minority who are committed to defining the whole thing as people who basically aren't disabled (except when they want to be).

Which to be absolutely clear, most autistic/ADHD people think is bullshit, but also, not much is done to differentiate "neurodiversity" from "autism and her buddies."

Was sexual abuse Was physical abuse Was emotional abuse Was psychological abuse Was medical abuse Was physical neglect Was emotional neglect Was medical neglect Was something other than what I have listed

If it happened and caused trauma responses, it is trauma no matter why it is there. The only reason someone should care about what caused you trauma is if they are a therapist or significant other who is trying to help you heal. You do not owe explanations to anyone.
