I hate how quarantine made so many people join fandoms like i feel like after covid everyone just started ruining fandom spaces and calling regular stuff that’s existed for years weird and toxic and awful like people don’t understand what a headcanon is and will full on argue with you over a stupid little headcanon like “I like the idea of this character having freckles” “ITS NOT CANON” “yea I know but it’s a headcanon” “it doesn’t make sense it’s never referenced” wtf also like I miss when cosplay was seen more as a weirdo thing now because it’s good it’s less like stigmatized I guess (sorry I’m not good at wording) but people will come up to me and say “that character isn’t a girl” when I just had makeup on for the cosplay or “that character doesn’t wear glasses” or “you’re not pretty enough for that” when I was younger I watched people throw on a wig out the bag have concealer lips and an Amazon outfit and go, and that was like the norm because it wasn’t a beauty contest it was for fun and yes there were other people putting more effort for a job or competition but the moral was it was all fun and like so what if I genderbent a character or did an au no one died it’s just a costume for a fake character. And then people will be like “this fandom is so toxic” what did they do? “They shipped everyone together even characters that didn’t talk to eachother” so there was no actual injuries or threats??? bro I shipped Jack Frost and Elsa as a kid and saw the creepypasta fandom incidents there are so many other things to worry about. I also just saw a video on tiktok saying “why are all the popular ships gay why does the lgbt community ruin fandoms” excuse me we built it people have been shipping gay stuff since the beginning of fandom in general because it’s under representation in the real media so people make fanart and fanfics to see themselves get out of my house if you wanna complain about my stuff
