The Darkest Moon - Prologue (Jongup fanfic)

POV: Second (male x female)

The grocery bags were heavy and made your arms ache. Desperate to set them down, you walked as fast as you could manage to your car that was unfortunately towards the back of the parking lot. You almost laughed at the thought of how ridiculous you must have looked- waddling with full arms and breathing heavily.

When you finally reached your truck, you tapped your foot on the underside of it and the trunk slowly opened. Before it could open fully, you were already throwing bags in. You thought it was a lifesaving idea, but one of the bags snagged on something and its contents came spilling out.

“Shit,” you exclaimed and kneeled to pick everything up.

“Ooh, now that’s some bad luck,” an unfamiliar voice said and, assumably, the body it belonged to kneeled near you and helped to pick up the fallen items. “That’s a lot of food for one person. Are you feeding a family?”

You smiled, despite hating strangers prying into your personal life. “No, I only need to cook for me and my boyfriend, but some of this food will be donated and some of it will be used for class activities.”

“I wish I was your boyfriend. He’s a lucky guy.”

“Thanks,” you replied coldly and stuff the food into some plastic bags that were already overflowing.

“So you’re a teacher? What grade level do you teach?”

“Second.”

“Do you enjoy it?”

“I’d hope so since I’ve been teaching for three years.” You closed the trunk and turned to look at him, finally putting a face to the voice. He was stunningly handsome, almost elegant looking.

Satisfaction flashed through his eyes, as if he knew what you were thinking. “My name is Jongup. If you ever want to hang out and have some fun, then call this number.” He held out a slip of paper that you took, winked, and walked over to a motorcycle. You stared at the numbers stribbled on the paper; your cold side wanted to throw it away, but your more curious side wanted to call or text him as soon as possible. You shoved the paper into your pocket and drove home, unable to get him out of your head.

It was nearing four in the morning and your boyfriend, John, still wasn’t home yet. He was most likely at some strip club hitting on one of the poor strippers, like usual. At first these actions hurt you, but now you had learned to live with it. You would have left him if it weren’t for the fact that it would be throwing away six years of your life and he would probably end up being an alcoholic bum without you- wait, why did you care? He so obviously didn’t care about you, so why should you waste your time and breath?

You stared up at the spinning cielinng fan and played with the idea of leaving him, maybe starting a completely new life. Teaching children was fun, but there were so many restrictions and rules you had to abide by. But then again, most of those children didn’t have the best home life and you were really the only person to brighten their day and be so understanding. What if you were to just… contact Jongup one time? Hang out with him for one time only and enjoy yourself? That wouldn’t hurt, would it?

Jumping out of bed a bit too quickly and excitedly, you dug his number out of your pant pocket and hesitantly dialed the number. The line rang four times before his voice came from the other end. “Hello?”

“Uh… Hi. This is Y/N. We met at the store parking lot earlier.” Your fingers fidgeted with the slip of paper, subconsciously tearing at it.

“Wow, I wasn’t expecting you to actually contact me.”

“Did you not want me to contact you?”

“No, I just thought you seemed too much like a good girl.”

Anger flared up within you, but you swallowed it down. “Are you going to keep your promise and show me a good time?”

His smile was nearly audible as he answered, “It’ll be my pleasure.”

   Damuron knit his brow, a small smile and a sigh on his lips. Ahhh, yes, to be young and quite intoxicated. He squatted in front of where the boy had deposited himself, reaching out a hand and clapping it on his shoulder. “Super great. You’re totally right.” he agreed, then shook his head. “You’re just lucky they caught me to come get you and not somebody else, mon garçon.” Somebody like Raven, or maybe worse. Damuron could at least get him somewhere people wouldn’t think to look.

   He reached over, tugging on Harry’s arm. “C’mon, up ‘n at’em, let’s get to stepping.” Back to Damuron’s… well, he called it a house. It was sort of a plot he’d just kind of taken up residence in and put walls on. He was still working on solidifying the roof and maybe laying a floor, but he had solid surfaces inside and enough to make marginal sterile environments…. so… tiny, poor doctor’s office? No worse than he’d seen back home…

He didn’t want to move.

Part of it was because of the embarrassment of what he had just done. Wanting to let loose had winded up with an explosion of emotions that the blond had not been prepared for. Not at that time. Sure, sometimes drunk meant he was a mess, but generally he was just a giggly stupid sort who didn’t give a shit about anything.

Unless he drank rum or tonic or … some other stupid alcohol that didn’t quite sit well with him. Shit, what had he been drinking?

A soft hiss escaped Harry’s lips at the tugging of his arm. Not that it really hurt, but the noise came out unvoluntarily.

“Raven’s on vacation somewhere South. Wouldn’t be here unless ya waited about a week.” The bird’s inability to handle cold weather was something Harry was getting more used to preparing for. Helping Raven find jobs or ‘vacation days’ down somewhere with a warmer climate was just par for the course in this time of year, so must of his guild members acted accordingly. Thus why it was Damuron standing there, and not Raven to hit him over the head with a book a couple of times and scold him.

“But really, ‘m fine. Don’t gotta worry ‘bout me.”

Harry, despite his words, didn’t fight Damuron’s leading back to his place. As small and … not so fixed up as it were, Harry didn’t offer much complaint.

“It was just a bar fight. Deal with the shiner ‘n bruises ‘n all later.”
