Reminders this Halloween!

1) not all children (no matter how old) can say “trick or treat”

2) not all children can stand wearing costumes (or afford them)

3) teens and adults trick or treating are not your enemies! They may not be as old as they appear or they may just enjoy it still.

Please do not withhold candy from people who you don’t deem “worthy” of it.

Sometimes toxic friends are loyal.

Sometimes toxic friends are kind.

Sometimes toxic friends are the only one there for you.

And it’s okay to not have wanted it any differently.

Because sometimes anyone is better than no one.

You can have a toxic relationship/friendship with someone who isn’t a toxic person. It could just be a relationship that’s either gone past its prime or wasn’t at the right time.

Recently, I have had to come out several different times and each time I found myself having to remain in the closet with some aspect of my identity.

As a nonbinary lesbian, I often have to choose whether to come out as nonbinary or as a lesbian, even when coming out to other members of my own community!

Many times I have had to settle with nonbinary, something that hurts me deeply because being a lesbian is really important to me.

So I guess all this to say, nonbinary lesbians should not have to surrender parts of themselves to be accepted regardless of their relationship with gender or what pronouns they use.

We deserve the right to be completely, publicly ourselves.

Keep up the good work.

Please reach out to your black friends.

Not just to check in on them, but to actually engage with them.

Ask them how their day is going. Share that funny image you saw that reminded you of them. Listen to them as they gush about what they love and enjoy.

Include us, because at the end of the day, we are people, too, not just hashtags for someone to clip on the edge of a phrase.
