#about cobalt

{but yeah this is more or less what i think cobalt looks like on a day to day basis. he's still learning about dressing up but he LOVES spikes.}

Had a bit of a revelation today that even though the system is Chinese American, each of our relationship with that aspect of our identity is quite different.

Green, for example, is one of the alters most connected to our Chinese heritage and the one most in tune to the interplay of Chinese and American cultures in our lives. He’s the one most likely to talk about the racism we face in the US along with also being seen as a foreigner in China.

Cobalt, on the other hand, is just as in tune with his Chinese heritage but in a different way. He’s the one most likely to engage in cultural exchange and encourage the people in our lives to explore Chinese culture and heritage, from the food to the language to the music. Cobalt is less aware of our American heritage, though, and tends to speak in Chinese when he can.

I, Pink, am involved with what Chinese American culture specifically looks like. While I’m aware that Chinese American culture has influences both from Chinese culture and American culture, we do have a pretty unique culture separate from either of those. And sure, there’s overlap. But there’s also something about being Chinese American that you can’t find in either Chinese nor American culture themselves.

And our final example is Cyan, who will regularly forget that he’s of Asian descent and then he passes by a mirror and goes, oh, right. It’s not that he seems himself as white, but it’s more that the Chinese or Chinese American identity is so far down his own perception as self that he doesn’t even think that he’s “different” from the white-majority people around him. But even so, he recognizes that he’s Chinese American, or at least will call himself “Asian”.

I dunno, I just thought that was an interesting little thing for us to think about.

Obyati vs Daemon

This started as a comment on the original post, but then it got ridiculously long.

I've never heard of an Obyati before, and the document was a very interesting read, especially because i think Cairo and Agate fit the description of an Obyati more than they do a traditional daemon.

I know there are many different interpretations of daemons and everyone practices daemonism differently, but based on what I consider a daemon to be (for myself), the term has never completely fit. I've always interpreted daemons to be a reflection of your soul, and a personification of your subconscious, essentially 'you' and your thoughts given a personality. Their form and voice and character are formed out of your subconscious, and while you can try to intentionally guide your daemon's development, they will become whatever you need them to be, whether you consciously agree with their conclusion or not.

Cairo and Agate are a part of me and come from me, but they are not 'me'. I intentionally created them for use outside of personal guidance or companionship (or any other function a daemon might serve). While they have definitely evolved over time and eventually took up the general role and duties of a daemon, their origins remain and still influence who they are and how they interact with both me and each other.

Arguably, this can be the origin of a daemon as well. As I said, I know there are numerous different interpretations outside of my own. Really, I'm fine to still call Cairo and Agate my daemons, but I've never been so sure that they are something just a bit different until I awakened Cobalt.

I consider Cobalt to be my 'true' daemon. This does not make them any more important to me than Cairo and Agate, I just feel like they most closely represent what I understand a daemon to be. They kind of created themself, their form and voice and character coming from what I presume to be my subconscious. I did not intentionally decide on any part of them outside of deciding to try to awaken them in the first place. In fact, they have disagreed with the few things I did try to impress upon them (like a name change. I feel 'Cobalt' doesn't fit their personality).

Of course, Agate and Cairo have more of an opinion of themselves now, and I cannot intentionally change them anymore, but the fact remains that I could in the past, and those choices still impact our present.

Well, this got really long and rambly and tbh it doesn't matter very much to us. I'll still refer to Agate and Cairo as my daemons, if just for simplicity's sake. It's only a label to us. However, it's interesting to think about, especially as I try to figure out how everyone fits in with everything as we move forward.

We're house sitting for our parents and it's genuinely weird how our usual cast of frequent fronters have shifted around because of this change. Usually we'd have Cyan, Crimson, Purple, and Green fronting a lot with Pink, Yellow, Azure, and Mint occasionally popping in, but this past week, Cyan/Crimson/Purple/Azure have been nowhere near front unless we go back to our partners' place and instead Orchid, Yellow, and an unnamed/not fully identified Cobalt part have been fronting more (+Green, bless him) while Pink, Mint, and Beige are in the co-con/backup group. It's definitely super weird, especially when our partners check in on us and we feel kind of emotionally distant from them while knowing they are our partners and we'd usually be super excited to get any messages from them.

Unfortunately we have another 3 weeks of this x.x Here's hoping we can reach our main hosts pretty quickly once this is all over.... I hate being the temporary host.

{one of the funniest interactions cobalt has had with his sonic so far is that he made fun of sonic by sending a video about how sonic can't spell and so you have to spell out treat or else}

{i think despite being built to copy sonic in just about every way, cobalt has significantly different body language and movement. He moves in a slow and deliberate fashion, wanting to come off as confident and elegant.}

{is elegant the proper word? I don't know. He's definitely trying to come off as cool though}

wrath 1 - does your muse like to get revenge on those they feel have wronged them?

{Cobalt does. Very much, he does. Part of it is the fact that that's simply how he was made, but the other part of it is that in his short time of existing, he never had much control in his life and getting revenge feels Good and like he's regaining some control.}

{The problem is that it's now no longer really "acceptable" to seek revenge. It's more okay with his roommates, but he fears that if he was to seek out causing deliberate harm, that he would be destroyed somehow. The good thing is that he's gotten decently good at being calm and level-headed, but he still feels that urge to lash out.}

{The best he can really do is be petty.}

{On the other, OTHER hand, it probably wouldn't be too against anyone's moral compass to seek out revenge against Dr. Eggman. Omega certainly gets it.}

pride 2 - in what areas might your muse be a little overconfident? are they overconfident in the sense that they don't have the skills to back it up, or in the sense that they do have the skills but they are obnoxious in their confidence?

{Cobalt isn't overconfident, he really Does have all those skills. (JOKE)}

{For almost all situations he encounters, he approaches ALL of them with a great amount of confidence. For instance, the fact that he refers to himself as a killing machine despite the fact that he has an extremely low body count of 0. My man has never successfully killed anyone he was supposed to kill.}

{...well, I guess that's not entirely true, he's now helped kill a lot of aliens. He does have an actual body count to speak of now.}

{Hell, he has a great amount of confidence in his speed despite never winning a race against Sonic. He's incredibly confident in a lot of his skills for never really... winning.}

{To be fair, a lot of his confidence has been shaken recently post getting his ass beat in Sonic Heroes, so I'm not actually sure how much he's overconfident anymore. He definitely had a lot of self-assurance when he was first created, though.}

{For real, in Sonic Heroes he's saying shit about how he's the supreme ultimate lifeform, he was definitely overconfident in his skills. And to be fair to him, he still required 12 people to fully kick his ass! Which he hasn't actually realized.}

{He no longer thinks he's the most supreme being alive, and it's kind of uncomfortable for him. It's a lot uncomfortable for him, actually. Like, he can copy the abilities of everyone he meets now, and he's STILL not powerful enough, and it's really starting to stress him out.}
