Are You Having The Talk?
Are You Having The Talk?
What is the talk? Who do you have the talk with? What does it cover and when should you have it?
Growing up in Nigeria, I was woken up in the middle of the night for some talks. Sometimes I was woken up by visiting relatives and sometimes by my parents. Some offences called for ‘middle of the night’ talks while minor ones called for ‘any time of day’ approaches.
I remember once being woken…

Thoughts:
Why is it so hard to accept yourself when others have no problem accepting you?..
Less Than
I don’t want
to be left without
because
I would cease
to be.
All the things
that make me wish
to touch
to smell and see,
and everything that thrives
on being alive.
Being human
means
being fallible.
It means
being
less than, perfect
which is, perfection.
I am
perfectly
me.

Accepting What Is
‘Don’t look for any other state than the one you are in now; otherwise, you will set up inner conflict and unconscious resistance. Forgive yourself for not being at peace. The moment you completely accept your non-peace, your non-peace becomes transmuted into peace. Anything you accept fully will get you there, will take you into peace. This is the miracle of surrender…
To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease, and lightness. This stage is then no longer dependent upon things being in a certain way, good or bad. It seems paradoxical, yet when your inner dependency on form is gone, the general conditions of your life, the outer forms tend to improve greatly.’
- Eckart Tolle, The Power of Now.
Excuse me, but it's just past midnight and I'm contemplating existence so I'm going to go on a bit of a rant.
Why is the phrase "it's just a phase" so wildly accepted as negative? It's so annoying. Humans grow and change. Everything for us is just a phase. Life is just a phase (Thats right, soon enough we'll all be dead)! Everything is part of something else. So why is it that people have to go and make it negative? The absolute hardest part about coming out to my parents was the nagging thought of "what if it is just a phase?". But honestly, why the hell should that matter? We're all growing and changing. And since that's the case, why is it that people expect every way a person identifies is to be final? There's no logic there. Why is it "you'll grow out of this" rather than "if that is how you feel, that is how you feel"? I just love that second option. It's about how someone feels. Since feelings change, it allows for flexibility. That's what we need. We need to understand that people do not, can not, fit inside of one rigid little socially acceptable box their entire lives. Something will always change. Something will always be different, and that something will not always be the same thing. We can't keep forcing people to identify as one thing and get mad if they want to change it. So maybe something is just a phase, but in the same way change should be embraced rather than shunned, new phases should be welcomed rather than shied away from and looked down on. People should be allowed to be and express who they are without fear of rejection if they change
