Aspec Glossary: Flux

What is the Aspec Glossary?

-flux is a microlabel suffix that indicates that the person in question experiences attraction of that type to a fluctuating degree. This can mean that they fluctuate between multiple identities while always remaining on the associated a-spectrum, or between being allo and aspec, etc.

Arofluxes may fluctuate between multiple identities or levels of attraction while always remaining on the aromantic spectrum (for example, fluctuating between being a green-stripe aromantic and demiromantic), or they may fluctuate between being aromantic and alloromantic, etc.

Acefluxes may fluctuate between multiple identities or levels of attraction while always remaining on the asexual spectrum (for example, fluctuating between being a black-stripe asexual and demisexual), or they may fluctuate between being asexual and allosexual, etc.

Aroacefluxes (Afluxes) are both aroflux and aceflux.

Aplfluxes may fluctuate between multiple identities or levels of attraction while always remaining on the aplatonic spectrum (for example, fluctuating between being a blue-stripe aplatonic and demiplatonic), or they may fluctuate between being aplatonic and alloplatonic, etc.

Someone can also be afamflux, asenflux, etc.

FLUCTUATING ARO / ACE / ALLO

aflux︰an individual who fluctuates across all of the a-spectrum. may also include fluctuating from allo. attractions may or may not fluctuate independently of each other.

aro/aceflux︰someone whose attraction fluctuates. may fluctuate between experiencing aro/ace, gray, and allo. similar to abro but the genders don't change, only the intensity and how they feel them changes!

alloflux︰when one usually feels allo- attraction, but fluctuates along the corresponding attraction spectrum at times.

aro/aceflexible︰to those who are mostly aro/ace and occasionally experience attraction; however, the attraction they experience is so little and/or rare that they consider themselves aro/ace with fluidity.

alloflexible︰someone who generally experiences sexual attraction and identifies as allosexual but is flexible in this identity, and occasionally experiences asexuality.

aroflex︰experiencing a less intense, consistent form of attraction that is somewhere between romantic and queerplatonic attraction while one’s feelings towards romance/romantic gestures fluctuates.

aro/acespike︰someone who usually feels no attraction, but occasionally has rare and sudden spikes of attraction for an amount of time that can vary from a day to a couple of months before returning to one's normal amounts of aromanticism/asexuality.

aro/ace-jump︰where one is normally allo, but one occasionally experiences rare, sudden, and intense spikes of total or near total aromanticism/asexuality for a short amount of time, before returning just as suddenly to one's normal amounts of alloromanticism/allosexuality.

INTERSEX Definition: Intersex is a term for those born with physical sex traits that cannot be typically classified as wolffian (male) or müllerian (female). Variations may appear in a individual’s chromosomes, hormones, genitalia, gonads, secondary sex characteristics, such as phenotype, or some combination of these things. Intersex variations are observed in many animals including humans. According to the ISNA it is estimated that as many as 1.7% of individuals are born with intersex traits, however this may be an incorrect estimate, as many individuals are unknowingly intersex due to the fact that external genitalia is the only sex characteristic noticed at birth (in most cases). Intersex does not describe a specific body type but rather is an umbrella term for a broad range of variations/traits. Some intersex individuals may closely resemble one of the binary sexes, while others are closer to in between. An intersex individual may have characteristics of both the wolffian and müllerian sexes, characteristics that fall somewhere in-between wolffian and müllerian, and/or characteristics that don't fall into either. Intersex individuals may have any gender identity, including male, female, non-binary, etc. They may identify as cisgender or transgender, or possibly another gender modality such as ipsogender or ultergender, but they can use none at all or use intersex as its own modality. Intersex individuals can have any assigned gender at birth, some may be AMAB or AFAB because their variation of intersex was not noticed at birth. Others may be coercively assigned male/female at birth (CAMAB/CAFAB), meaning they had nonconsensual surgery preformed on them so their body more closely fits one of the binary sexes. In some rare cases they are AXAB. Each intersex individual has a unique relationship to their gender, assigned gender at birth, the gender they were raised as, and how that relates to their experience being intersex. Intersex is included in the LGBT+ community, though not all intersex individuals consider themself to be LGBT+ on the basis on being intersex. This is largely a personal choice based on how one's status as intersex has (or hasn't) affected their experiences. Someone who is not intersex is called dyadic, perisex, or endosex. Intersex is not an identity, but is something one is born as. Some intersex traits are identified at birth, while others may not be discovered until puberty or later in life (although, the variation was always present, just unnoticed). One cannot "transition to intersex". Dyadic individuals who desire mixed sex traits may identify as altersex. AROACEFLUX Definition: Aroaceflux (also known as Aflux) is an orientation on the Aroace spectrum which describes someone who is both Aceflux and Aroflux. More simply, it is an orientation where one's sexual and romantic orientations fluctuate, but generally stay on the Asexual and Aromantic spectrums. These fluctuations may occur at the same time or they may be independent of each other. One's romantic and sexual orientation may or may not align or correlate with the other. This means that an Aroaceflux individual may feel very strongly Asexual and/or Aromantic at one point in the day, but could feel more strongly Allosexual and/or Alloromantic later on. These experiences can cause some Aroaceflux individuals to consider themselves more aligned with the Greysexual and/or Greyromantic spectrums. Some Aroaceflux individuals may never consider themselves to be Allosexual/Aomantic (or even Greysexual/romantic) as they may never fluctuate into orientations which experience sexual or romantic attraction (e.g. one who is only flux between apothiromantic and aegoromantic as well as apothisexual and cupiosexual.) It may overlap with Abrosexual and Abroromantic, however, someone who is Abrosexual/romantic experiences changes in what orientation of attraction they experience. Generally, for aroaceflux individuals, when or if they feel attraction, the gender(s) they're attracted to are always the same. It is only how they're attracted to them or how intensely they're attracted to them that changes. Aroaceflux: The intensity of sexual and romantic attraction changes or fluctuates, but usually stays on the asexual and aromantic spectrums. These fluctuations may be concurrent, or they may be independent of each other. Some may fluctuate between specific identities. For others it may be closer to a sliding scale of no attraction to full attraction.
