And this is yet again another scene of @alkalinefrog 's "The lights of Avalon". Chapter 9 is my favorite up until now and I loved this scene so much that I couldn't stop myself from drawing it, even though it didn't come out how I wanted, I think it looks good enough if you don't look at it for too long.

Finally wrapped these up! I got permission from @alkalinefrog to colour her “Goodnight” pieces, which were in turn inspired by the work of the lovely @captainhysunstuff‘s comic about L and Light trying to figure out how to sleep during the Yotsuba arc (here’s the first one, it’s super cute and still ongoing!). 

I have a bad habit of rendering too much, so I took this opportunity to practice just laying out colours, making shapes, and forcing myself not to use the airbrush or blenders. Looking at their feet as I type, I can spot a hundred little details that I would obsessively polish out most of the time. 

But I still love them. I like how much movement I put into their clothes, the forms I was able to convey, the lighting in the scenes. I think they turned out wonderful, for all of their flaws. With all of the flaws. The messiness seems to fit a lot...

Huge thanks to Alka for giving me permission to colour these two. Not how I expected to make my first piece of art on the site, but here we are.

Both of you love to have fun and don’t take things too seriously, and who cares if he can’t get it on and you have no interest in that anyway!! You can be best buds, play video games together, crack wise and laugh at Light and L’s antics. He dropped at Death Note at your feet but instead of writing names you started doodling in it and he became your Number One Fan (he especially loves the actor AU)! He decided never to write your name and now you have a permanent death god side-kick giving you art “advice” over your shoulder and getting apple bits all over your desk. He’s down for helping out when you need to fly somewhere quick and will happily take the indoor bugs outside so you don’t have to. A real pal!
