tumblr gets to see it first since i’m impatient for someone to dissect the symbolism with meeeee
i’m so so happy with how this turned out! i spent so long thinking about composition and symbolism and colour i felt i was back in art class.
some massive inspiration was Paradise Lost by John Milton, renaissance art, the story of Icarus and the Sun, and the halo symbolism they use for Maul in the comics that make me swoon because Maul is gorgeous and i love him
the idea is that it’s reversible, you can interpret how the symbolism changes, how the power and the dynamic changes with the orientation - i wanted to show the complexity of Maul and Galriah’s relationships with the Force and how it changes as they grow and shed their previous histories and experiences, AND how their dynamic together changes, especially when Galriah cuts himself off from the force and other people to go into hiding/a self imposed exile.
i’m hoping the last one shows the colours of the silk better since the shading hid it a bit, but there was a moment in the comics where someone mentioned everyone feels the force differently, and i have always interpreted it as a fabric of the universe that bends and twists around others, and i reckoned it would tie nicely into my renaissance vibe i wanted
