unpopular opinion: sterek is worse than stydia

I've been tiptoeing around this "ship" for a while now. Not really certain as to why. Their hardcore fans are just as bad as the hardcore stydia ones. That, and I have no real issue with people who want to indulge in make-believe fanon scenarios and ships. Most of them anyway. Where my issue lies here, with Stiles and Derek being shipped together, is the fact that one is a minor for a good part of the show and the other is a grown ass man. And like all paedophilia-ridden ships, real or made up by fans, I have a burning desire to call them and their fans out.

So, getting right to the bottom it... you're shipping a sixteen year old boy with a twenty-something year old man. Outside of the bounds of television, it's horrifically wrong and it's criminal. Within the show, Derek himself views Scott and Stiles (and everyone else who is a teenager) as children.

So, the thought of people then going "hey, you know what, let's photoshop pictures of these two fucking" is hideous. And it's why Tyler Posey said what he said all those years ago. Not because he was jealous, not because he was being salty, but because he's taking it for how it is; people coming up to him, asking him if he ships a man and a boy.

Also, have people forgotten the storyline surrounding Derek and how Kate raped him, how she preyed on him when she was an adult and he was a teenager?

That's all I need to say on the morality of it all. On the logistical, chemistry stuff... in Season 1 and 2, Derek threatens, scares and pretty much assaults Stiles. But instead of focusing on that, shippers focus on where Stiles' eyes are and become delusional over the fact that his eyes slip to Derek's mouth as Derek is speaking. Not like he's avoiding eye contact or anything, out of fear. If there were any blatantly weird moments between the two, it's down to writers or the network realising they didn't have a main gay ship, that people were strangely enough wanting these two together... and voila, queerbaiting.

Still, there are just some moments you seriously cannot fathom to be romantic. Like the scene where it apparently became canon that Stiles was Derek's anchor. It's the final episode Season 3B, a season where Stiles has been in and out of reality, thinking he wasn't dreaming when he was and vice versa. So, naturally, he is in Derek's dream when he's asking about how you know if you're dreaming or not. As an expert by that point, Stiles tells him.

And that... somehow... was the scene where delusional fans thought that was concrete evidence that Stiles was Derek's anchor.

If you wanna love gay ships, focus on Danny and Ethan. You know, the incredibly cute gay couple in Teen Wolf that were in the entirety of Season 3A and 3B.

Or focus on better, age-appropriate fanon gay ships in Teen Wolf, like Scott and Isaac, who displayed genuine chemistry and connection and were wronged because it turned into "jealous over the girl" thing.

Apparently Liam and Theo are shipped too. I never watched the final season. They look like they have real chemistry and potential. Focus on them.

Literally anything but Derek and Stiles, please, for the love of everything that is right in this world...

Genuine question - do you think there was queerbaiting with Stiles and Derek? Or was that a situation a lot of fans made up like JJ/Pope?

I’ve just seen people post about it lately, and I never thought there was, but I haven’t watched the show in years and when I did was so consumed by Stydia I didn’t really pay attention to other relationships. I’m not trying to start anything, I’m honestly just curious lol.

Okay so let me first clarify by saying that I have not watched the show in several years either, but I honestly do not think it was as bad as people made it out to be? I think it was always blatantly obvious that it was not going to happen. It did become a running gag, but imho the running gag was that the two of them didn’t like each other. People not liking each other does not always mean they are going to get together?

I do think in some ways it was definitely toeing the line more than jjpope does. They have not queerbaited with jjpope, plain and simple. I would say they baited bi stiles a bit with no confirmation, if anything. And the only “Sterek” thing I can genuinely be like “okay I can see why they feel baited” took place off screen, with the cast, when Tyler and DoB were like “we’re on a ship” or something along those lines.

I know a lot of people are going to disagree with me, and that’s fair and their right to disagree, but that’s just honestly how I feel.

Hello I'm a loyal sterek and huge fan of this pair, little red riding hood and the big bad wolf. I've been in this fandom for 3 years and I'm honestly done with y'all hating on female characters. Specially Malia Tate (Hale) and everything she represents, only because she fucked your fave doesn't mean you have to hate her to death, being such a powerful and amazing character, and let's NOT talk about the ones who hate on Shelley too. Grow up, honestly.

Sterek all the way and Malia deserves better.

If ster*ks ship them for their banter (and less fun abusive scenes) why not ship stanny? They've literally been the best duo of "i hate you you're annoying" and "tELL ME IF YOU THINK IM ATTRACTIVE!!"

But like of course yall go for the white on white ship instead of the slightly healthy interracial ship.
