woah a wof oc drawing for once?

this is my son Neptune he's one of my oldest wof ocs from before I had properly read the books and was going off my friend's lore explanation

obviously I have and continue to tweak his design and lore to better fit canon

He's a Seawing dominant Seawing Nightwing hybrid and an animus and skyfire repressed seer. Timeline wise both my main wof oc stories (His and his half-sister Jellyfish's) take place in roughly 5027 AS (15 years post the flames of hope) in a AU where Boa doesn't erase animus magic.

He's aroace and a demiboy (he/they).

His backstory has been changed a bit but the current rendition is under the cut due to length

content warning: discussions of murder, child death, implied neglect and aphobia (specifically arranged marriage involving aroace individuals) also just crappy writing I am bad at this and most of this story has gone unchanged for 3 years.

Following the flames of hope in the descendants of Whiteout the animus gene becomes particularly strong. The Nightwings fully break off from the Rainwings starting a new royal line beginning with Fierceteeth's daughter. Due to the new abundance of Nightwing animus dragons the Nightwings become reliant on them to rebuild their tribe. One animus Nightwing named Mythseeker begins a secret relationship with a Seawing messenger called Marine. Shortly before their eggs are laid Mythseeker is killed by a group of Rainwing assassins to eliminate the threat of the Nightwing animi. Marine leaves her clutch of three hybrid eggs on a bay watching over them until a tropical storm washes all three eggs away with only one egg surviving. The remaining egg washes up on the shores of the Nightwing kingdom found by a Nightwing called Stargazer, a Nightwing seer who interprets the future through astronomical events. Stargazer having recently had her own eggs adopts the egg. When it hatches under a full moon she realises, having been a close friend of Mythseeker, the hatchling is his son. Assuming he would inherit their father's animus magic she fakes a prophecy that her adopted son would be an animus.

Her prediction proves true and Neptune is brought before the Nightwing queen to be the new animus. From a young age Neptune is trained as a tool for the Nightwings and celebrated to the near point of worship for being an all powerful prophecised animus. Stargazer in secret takes him to visit his mother but Neptune decides to stay with the dragon who raised him only occasionally meeting Marine. Neptune is made to wear skyfire as his Seawing genes cause the seer abilities he gains from his full moon hatching incredibly distressing and painful. The skyfire also masks his inner doubts from the Nightwings, he is haunted by stories of animus dragons like Darkstalker and Albatross and fears the seemingly pointless enchantments the Nightwings demand will lead him down a similar path. Despite having no interest in ever marrying or any form of partnership he is placed in a arranged marriage with a high-ranking noble's daughter named Honourbringer. She has similar intentions to him and they bond over plotting to escape the arrangement. He enjoys the one friend he is allowed to have.

At 6 years old the Nightwing queen allows him to attend jade mountain academy so he can receive training from other tribes on how to master his animus magic. He insists his adoptive siblings he was hatched with also attend guilt-ridden that they are neglected in his favour. He struggles to make friends in his winglet outcast for his upbringing. Except for one dragon a fellow hybrid named Venus Dragon-trap the infamous 'hybrid princess of the leafwings' the rainwing hybrid niece of the queen she tries so hard to silence. Venus encourages Neptune to learn to stand up for themself and be assertive and the two become close friends. In the end both push eachother towards a better life Neptune stands by Venus as she challenges her aunt for throne. And Venus stands by Neptune as he demands to be treated as a real dragon by his tribe loosening the constant demands and ending the arranged marriage with Honourbringer. He continues to work on carefully crafted projects with his magic and spend time with his family and his two best friends Venus and Honourbringer.

oh god this was meant to be a short summary

it's a little cliche but I like it. Arguably Stargazer is an awful parent (well-meaning but it only gets you so far) but it's rare for any of my OCs to have moral parents Marine is also worse. My OCs tend to have a dead dad,morally questionable mother and morally better (though how much is better changes) adoptive parents. I don't know why this is not reflective of my real life parents.

it's based on the aplaroace flag :0 and probably a loveless aplatonic and nonfriending

i bet it's incredibly social but terrible at actually forming words, and the most blatantly allofamilial character you've ever seen. like it adopts every possible being in its vicinity (smiles would HATE this guy)

its paws are gloves :0 like it has tiny twig paws and the little bells around its mane/flower crown jingle jangle whenever it moves

i like to imagine it can dramatically clap and it sounds like one of those confetti poppers goes off, but idk where the confetti actually comes from ;-; but it's also fictional clown magic so idk don't ask me

anyway my update to like, all the other clown ocs im neglecting is every single one is alovespec. their world is like my ocs self-projected fanfic and i guarantee they accidentally applied that to everyone (that's not a pattern)

this guy's more passive about it though. its not really repressed or explored, but it recognises that it just doesn't enjoy those kinds of relationships and doesn't go out of its way to engage with them

it'll excessively yap for the day but make sure not to cross a personal boundary

[UNKNOWN] sister taught them how to read and write.

{17 years old} Vital instrument awoke. Had since before the accident, given to them by their sister.

Finally designed my protagonist, Echo Redwood! They're basically me from 1-2 years ago. They're probably 17, if not then 18, in their second year of college studying animation. They're autistic and don't really have friends because they're compulsively masking their special interest, and I just want to give them a hug. Their hair is a bit garish but it's based on me having hair with Riddler colours (+ blue) during early college. Their glasses are square and not round because the last time they went to the opticians was before the Artist became their special interest. Their look is meant to be a bit ecletic as their meant to be a realistic teenager, not some cool, co-ordinated, obviously-fictional character. Their face is a lot like how I draw mine, but with even less lines (I'm used to drawing silly old men). I might give them spots on their face.

I'm starting to feel like I need to create a slide deck to explain Shion's sexuality and perspective on sex 😅

She can enjoy sex but doesn't desire it? At least, she doesn't feel like she desires sex the way others seem to. She craves intimacy with someone she loves, and that kind of physical closeness tends to overlap with the other person wanting sex. Because sex is supposed to happen when you're in love, right?

Before the OT3, Shion had two relationships: Zane Armbrust and Rena Hoffmann. Zane was her partner during their cadet days when they were both in their late teens, and in hindsight her feelings were more platonic than romantic (which contributed to them breaking up around graduation). Being with Zane helped Shion begin healing from the long-term emotional abuse inflicted by her mother, but between that and her parents' unhealthy relationship as her main example, she made many mistakes, including sleeping with him because he wanted it, because the act was expected. (To be fair, Zane was also figuring himself out; a few years later he meets a man who he ends up marrying.)

Thanks to that growth, the version of Shion who meets Rena is in a much better place to have a relationship. And Shion falls head over heels for her. I don't think Rena was aspec, instead a deeply empathetic person who worked hard to identify and meet her lover's wants and needs while communicating her own. Often with teasing involved. Sure, they had their stumbles along the way as they figured out who they were together. But through that safety and acceptance, Shion first found pleasure in sex with Rena, later even initiating it on rare occasions. Despite their crapsack world, they were happy for years. And then Shiganshina was attacked, taking Rena's life alongside so many others.

(Why did Rena have to become such a wonderful character?? I once again must apologize to an OC for putting them through so much anguish.)

Shion throws herself into the Survey Corps in the wake of Rena's death, alternating between Expeditions and helping train new recruits, never rising to a captain rank due to occasional reckless behavior. Her luck runs out when she breaks both legs fighting a Titan, leading to months of recovery and then post-recovery physical therapy and training to rejoin the Survey Corps. She should have given up, retired, changed jobs, but if she wasn't a soldier fighting Titans, what would she have left?

It's this version of Shion who joins Squad Jonas, and her time with them slowly helps her realize how much the past few years have rocked her to the core. How far she's strayed from Rena's desire for her to seek joy. In trying to recover that better version of herself, Shion changes to the point that she catches Hange's attention, and soon after that is when Cut to the Feeling begins.

Given all this, Shion is utterly unprepared to fall in love again, let alone with someone like Levi. Yet she won't suppress those feelings because they were unexpected. In fact, she finds joy in loving Levi (and Hange, albeit under the assumption that her feelings are purely platonic there).

It's the physical aspects of that love which Shion struggles with. Unlike Rena, Levi isn't one to talk about such things. He's direct, blunt, and forward. And Shion will prioritize his needs and wants over her own. Which leads to tension between them once Hange turns their pair into a triad.

Because, subconsciously, Shion prefers physical intimacy with an AFAB partner. She's never had two people juxtaposed to be able to figure that out. But Levi notices, quickly, and later confronts her about it in his characteristically brusque fashion (because he doesn't know she hasn't realized this herself). It isn't an easy conversation. Yet the three of them insist on honesty with each other above all else, and because they work to maintain this foundation of trust, they can have these conversations. Which leads to a three-way relationship where each person can freely express wants and meet needs because they love each other, whether those needs are for sex or for the absence of it.
