Help me spread the word about my autism poetry ebook (and maybe help get it into some libraries)? 😘🙏🥺🤗
Hi there, self-diagnosed adult autistic/AuDHD woman here. 👋 I just published a poetry ebook. It covers various subjects and writing styles but mainly explores autism itself or neurotypical/societal opposition to autistics.
Here’s the problem: for safety/stress reasons, I can’t promote this book via traditional book promo methods.
I live with people in denial and I'm not "out" about being autistic IRL (for privacy reasons, I published under a pen name), so I can’t tell my neighbors in case word comes back to said people. For the same reason, I can’t locally advertise this book or do public readings. I need to be careful about how I even talk about it online.
This is where YOU come in.
Although I included retail links here for those inclined to buy things and support tiny indie creatives, I’m not specifically asking anyone here to buy this book. I get it. Everyone’s broke and/or only buys things they know they’ll like.
Instead, I’m asking you to do 2 things (yes, preferably both) that don’t cost a penny:
1) Reblog this post.
Yes, I said REBLOG. Tumblr doesn’t use popularity algorithms, so likes and comments don’t spread a post. Only reblogs can do that.
2) Request this ebook through your local library so you (and other folks!) might be able to read it for free.
Libraries have different procedures for book acquisition, so you’ll need to investigate that part yourself. In some cases, it’s as simple as logging into your online library account and looking for a book request button. Book requests don’t automatically mean success (library budget sizes and expenditure schemes vary wildly between regions, states, and countries), but requesting it is the first step towards giving it a chance to be available in your area.
And that’s it.
I’m not specifically asking anyone here to buy it firsthand. I’m not asking anyone here to even like the book or leave a review. I’m just asking for a chance at getting it into some people’s hands.
There aren’t exactly millions of books out there directly addressing the autistic experience firsthand. I’m just trying to contribute my own cranky little voice to a narrative that's still largely defined and controlled by outsiders rather than the people who live it every day.
To the best of my (admittedly crash course) knowledge, this ebook meets basic accessibility requirements, but please understand this is my first ebook and I'm human, so there's always a chance that it might glitch out on the occasional device.
If you’re still reading this, thank you.
(This book will eventually be available on many other sites and I didn't knowingly exclude any site or country when I uploaded it, but my distributor doesn't disclose their full list of retail partners, so I just chose the 3 biggest sites I currently have links to.)
