ACOTAR book 3 spoilers (and rant) below

Reading through ACOTAR for research reasons (yes, don’t raise your eyebrows the romance isn’t that good. I’m researching the fae-fantasy genre to improve my own writing) and as of finishing book three I have no idea how a Zionist could’ve written this plot (except the part where the rapist got a redemption arc that justifies their bad politics, but doesn’t retcon or change anything about the fact that it was part of a convoluted plot to rape the protagonist)

But like, they’re fighting a war against racial/religious superiority to build a world where everyone is equal. Her best friend came out as bisexual. Theres a library staffed entirely by rape victims. They decided that no one should have the big evil weapon, not even themselves. Most of the plot was them defending themselves from a bunch of greedy zealots who thought the rest of the world owed them loyalty. They killed a priestess because she used religion for political gain.

How can a Zionist write this plot and still be a Zionist IRL what the hell?

Sorry for disappearing (will happen again)

I was busy getting back into writing (and my other hobbies) but you guys get tot hear about the writing.

I finally made an AO3 account, and I kicked it off by starting a story about christian religious trauma! (I know not technically a fandom) but christian tradional lore and folklore was accepted as a fandom tag. It also felt most fitting to put it on AO3 than other sites I'm interested in for chapterly online publications of my stories. It also feels like it matches the fanfic vibe in the way that I invented a christian-like religion for my main chracter rather than infringe upon christian canon. (the term canon actually comes from christianity so they were kind of doing first, y'know)

Anyway! The story follows Brother John, a cleric, on his mission to exorcise those possessed by demons of lust (with lethal force) to prevent or avenge acts of sexual violence. This story is NOT smut/erotica. The tone is meant to be emotional and traumatic for my characters. I refuse to write any scenes that someone could get-off to and remove themselves from the weight of the story, so those things are only implied. Here's the link:

I want to start a community or blog for book lovers. I've been reading a lot of romance novels... Would anyone be interested in a blog or community with all my recommendations?

If you don't mind me asking, as someone who just started looking into small presses, how did you handle the "what is your marketing plan" question some ask? After coming from querying I have the kneejerk of "that should be the press' job" but different publishing niches have different expectations.

I personally think it IS the press's job and I'm resentful of the fact that so much of marketing has fallen to authors now. However. We Must.

My own personal marketing plan is "be my most unhinged self on social media and let that carry me through." I post, frequently and unfiltered and authentically, and hope it's enough to lure people in to check out my books. I also have a discord server dedicated to the book I'm submitting, and an author newsletter through Buttondown. My most recent book is a yarn shop romance so my marketing plan also involves a knitalong and potentially working with a dyer for custom colorways. You are expected to pay for pre-order incentives if you do them, and that can be tricky, because you have to pay for commercial rights to the artwork you commission for stickers, art prints, etc.
