one thing olaf is good for - possibly the only thing olaf is good for - is understanding how much beatrice sucks. how horrible beatrice is. how revenge against beatrice is of utmost importance. in a sense, esme is glad to have him around, a refreshing hatred of beatrice amidst this whole world that seems to just adore beatrice baudelaire. it makes his flaws somewhat tolerable (and there are a lot of flaws).
but sometimes he lets slip of his true emotions, and esme sees through him, that deep down he doesn’t think they’re on equal footing here. that he thinks while she understands how horrible beatrice is she doesn’t understand it as well as he does, that while she’s been betrayed by beatrice it’s far far more insignificant than how he was betrayed by beatrice. as if it’s not her who’s been more wronged by beatrice after beatrice took the sugar bowl away from her, took the role on stage from her, chosen that stupid theater critic over her, disappearing from the city when esme was seeking revenge, coming back married to a different man (if lemony snicket had been that important, important enough for her to ruin esme, then how is she giving him up so soon, how does that make esme look, has she even considered it? probably not, beatrice only ever thinks about herself, esme thinks bitterly). and olaf has the audacity to talk to esme as if he’s the one who’s suffered more, as if his sufferings are the only one that mattered, as if esme would not understand as much as he does. and moments like that enrage esme, makes her blood boil, so much that she thinks she should cut him loose, leave him behind.
except - who else is there to hate on beatrice together, if not for this arrogant, condescending, unhygienic man who has known beatrice forever? (this too is beatrice’s fault. can’t she have better enemies for esme to team up with? does it have to be olaf, of all people?)
she once hoped georgina could sympathize, but apparently georgina has no time or energy for beatrice. she might truly be stuck with olaf.
this, too, is beatrice’s fault.
just like everything in esme’s life.

I am constantly editing/changing these, most of them aren't really in a coherent order yet and some of them are currently ridiculously short because I haven't really found the right niche of songs for their dynamic yet, but here you go ^.^ (also I will be making and linking a masterpost for each one explaining why I chose all the songs, but if anyone ever has any song recommendations or wants to know about a specific song that's already on there, feel free to send me an ask!)
Esme: I still miss my ex *throws molotov at the Baudelaire house* but my aim is getting better!
I promised you Beasmé, so here it is!

Beatrice's supposedly noble intentions the night before were derailed, and now she's waking up to the consequences. Set pre-series, shortly after the announcement of Esmé's engagement
