When trying to figure out the name for a character and needing to know its orgin/definition/etamology:
Behindthename.com...
Save me, behindthename.com.....
My favorite past time is discovering and having a good chuckle about the non-traditional names that soviet parents would name their children.
You know, a lot of them are good, they look and sound pretty, but sometimes I have a good laugh when I discover from what they were derived.
@themousefromfantasyland @ariel-seagull-wings I think I know what I'll make fun of occasionally in the Mokem Series.
Okay biggest plot twist of the day: 'Ingo' is an actual, real name that people out there apparently have. I literally thought that they took the words 'in' and 'go' and smashed them together in an attempt to make something that sounded vaguely like a name. But no! Turns out that it's German! (Apparently derived from Inge/Ing, the name of an obscure old Germanic fertility god.)
Meanwhile the website that I usually use for this kind of stuff (behindthename.com) doesn't register 'Elesa' as a name. While it seems that there actually are a fair number of people out there who are in fact named 'Elesa', the fact that this website has 'Ingo' listed as a name, but not 'Elesa' astounds me just a little! That implies that somehow, 'Ingo' as a name is more popular and culturally relevant than 'Elesa'! And A minute ago, I didn't think that 'Ingo' was actually a real name!

Today I learned that Behindthename has a ‘generate a life story’ option with its name generator that means I don’t have to think about things like birthdays, heights, age or even life spans for background characters on top of learning the meaning of their names.
Behindthename.com says Dion is a short form of Dionysios.
And considering Augustus and Donatella named their second son Razputin...
Dion’s full name is Dionysios Aquato, and no one can convince me otherwise.
