El: Where… am I?
Kali: Yo, welcome to the afterlife.
Eddie: We have tortilla chips,
Chrissy, mouth full: an’ ‘ip.
Eddie: Yes, and dip.
Billy: Stop eating my dip!
Bob: Ah! You’re still in a time out, mister.
Billy: *huffs, and goes back to staring at the wall in his little corner*
El: …Am I dead?
Kali: I dunno, but there’s cable.
El: Oooh!
-
Jason: When are we allowed out of the timeout?
Billy: Stop talking to me.
Me picking my favorite character in a piece of media
The main character who is going to survive:
The lovable side character who is doomed by the narrative:
Stranger things has an intra-narrative trope where once per season an emotionally invested character dies which impacts the plot & viewers but not the main cast. I'd include Barb in this personaly. Barb has the diistinction of being the first character to be subject of this trope, so her death has the emotional impact we'd come to expect from a major character death. Same with Bob. Then in season 3, we had Bill-Dr. Alexei! You remember Dr Alexei right? The introverted sweetheart that, despite a seeming conflict of interest, by golly, just wanted to help out? Eddie Munsen was nothing like the character(s) I just described… On the surface. When Eddie died, we had just enough time in learning about the character to feel betrayed that we believed that the mechanics of the Stranger Things narrative would change. To recognise the narratives pattern of behaviour and be rewarded with catharsis when it changed appropriately. I don't like calling that " emotional manipulation ", I want a story to manipulate my emtotions. I'd call that a failiure of communication through the artform. Tropes are a vital mechanic to storytelling, not a bad thing. Without tropes, stories can't have meaning or build on each other. Like letters, within a word, within a sentence. But when a trope is created within a narrative, one needs to be careful about what that trope means & says about the narrative as a whole. The death of the Stranger Things nice guy says that no one matters, unless they make it to the next season. When there is no next season, no one matters.
the final hour. this show has meant more to me than i think i realized until it was ending. i started watching when i was 11 years old. since then i’ve moved across the country and so so many things have happened, yet here i am, 21 years old and back at home for the holidays in the room i first watched season one in after begging my mom for a netflix subscription. i’m beyond excited to see the show wrapped up and hope everyone gets their idea of a satisfying ending. i love the stranger things fandom and will forever be apart of it. happy finale and happy watching to all of you beautiful freaks. ❤️

Brought to you thanks to the amazing @st-fromthegrave-minibang, I present you a collaborative work with My Paris (@nrdmssgs). Please check out their artwork for the fic on ao3! Or here on tumblr!
Honestly even if the fic isn't the best, I enjoyed writing it, I ABSOLUTELY ADORED seeing the artwork nrd created for it, and I am so happy there's an event to honour our faves that were dealt dirtily by the canon! Who needs canon, am I right?
CW: ~6.5k words, T rated, Dad Benny AU, henderhop (Jane/Dustin), jonali (Kali/Jonathan), Bob/Joyce, with minor violence and horror elements, takes place in spring after season two
Summary: After Jane closed the big Gate, life seems to get back to normal: she and her sister live with their beloved grumpy dad Benny Hammond and spend time with their partners, Dustin and Jonathan. However, when one early spring night Kali returns home from a date, sleepy peace of their home gets disturbed by a horrific vision of Jane's mama being abducted into the Upside Down. It's up to them to rush to rescue her, not realizing this might be a trap and the danger is lurking somewhere else.

Gravel rustled under the tires as Jonathan pulled into the driveway. Kali glanced at the weak yellow porch light shining through the windshield and casting warm highlights inside the car — she heard Benny grumbling about the lightbulb needing replacement just a couple days ago, something about his girls needing a proper light to feel safer coming home at night. With a flicker of glossy reflections in her eyes, Kali turned to Jonathan and saw his mouth curl up into a bashful smile, mirroring hers. Safe. It was an easy feeling to get used to.
She tilted her head, studying Jonathan in the dim oil painting lighting; he tightened his grip on the steering wheel, seemingly out of words for the evening.
"Thanks for tonight," Kali's low voice sent visible shivers along his skin. She opened the door, letting still, cool spring night fill the interior, and stepped outside, rounding the car to lean onto the driver's open window. "See you tomorrow?"
Jonathan breathed out a quiet "yeah", leaning in for a soft press of lips. Kali brushed messy fringe off his forehead and took in his face — he was smiling and blinking sweetly, as if surfacing from a deep dive into a murky warm lake. With a chuckle and a wave, she straightened up and shoved her hands into the pockets of her long coat, hurrying to the porch and up the stairs. The gravel stayed silent: Jonathan was watching her come inside.
