Toplamda üç tane yakın arkadaşım vardı: Kate, Jay ve Noah. Annesinin evde olmadığı neredeyse kesin olduğu için de çoğunlukla hep Jaylerde takılıyorduk. Bu aptal sıfat, onların benim için ne anlam ifade ettiklerini açıklamaya yaklaşamasa bile onları en yakın arkadaşlarım olarak adlandırıyordum. Dilimizde bunu tam mânâsıyla ifade edebileceğim hiçbir sözcük yoktu. Onlarla birinci sınıfta dersler bittikten sonra gitmek zorunda bırakıldığımız Tekrar Yola Girdim adında bir tür özel ders/rehberlik programında tanışmıştım. Hepimizin iki ortak noktası olduğu için o programa gönderilmiştik. Bir zamanlar muhteşem olan notlarımızın aniden düşüşü ve niyeti serserilik etmek olan insanlarınkine benzeyen davranışlarımızla tutumlarımız. Hepimizin hayatında başarısızlıklar boy gösteriyordu ama dördümüz tamamen farklı bir nedenle bağ kurmuştuk.
