"That Really Happened?!" DC Comics Tournament Entry #15
Batman's dad tries to ruin his life
[ID: A four panel comic fragment from Batman (2016) #82 depicting Bruce Wayne trying to break Bane's back over his knee before getting shot by his father. The first three panels depict Bruce Wayne losing his balance and falling down with Bane in his arms (both are unmasked and shirtless) after getting shot twice in his stomach. He makes the "gnnn" sound as he gets shot and says "F... F-F-- Father..." as he is falling down.
The fourth panel below them depicts Flashpoint universe Thomas Wayne in his Batman attire with a serious expression on his face, holding a gun with a smoke coming out of it. He is calmly saying "Son." The Ventriloquist stands behind him. /END ID]
What Happened?
Tom King (already off to a good start) wrote City of Bane for the 2016- Batman run. The conflict here is Bane taking the control of the city to a dictatorship level and turning other rogues gallery members into his minions. The Batman is in a weakened state, so he can't take down Bane just yet. OK so. Now that I gave a brief synopsis, who do you think the main antagonist of the story was? Maybe Bane since he was established as an important character for the plot since the beginning and since his name is literally the name of the arc? Nah it's Batman's evil alternate reality dad from Flashpoint. From the alternate universe where Thomas Wayne is an antihero Batman and Martha is Joker. He was like an actual mastermind behind all of that and used Bane as his pawn. Apparently he learnt that his son (who's dead in his universe) is alive on prime earth and is that universe's Batman. He wants to free Bruce from the burden of being a vigilante and travels to the prime earth but pretty much just ruins his life. Honestly this wasn't being set up as some super unexpected plot twist as I remember but this is still kind of an '???' moment
