Padstal Tree, North of Britstown, SA. April 2017. • • Hey guys, @jasminjelley here again.... We came across this tree when going on a drive for a coffee break with Ivonne, the lady who runs Gentlecare. Kambro Padstal (roadside cafe and farm shop) had an incredible outdoor area under a thatched roof, which is structured to let this tree grow above the building. The dappled light coming through the branches in the roof was too beautiful not to photograph, and the setting provided the much-needed headspace after one of our first days working at the care. It allowed us the space to reflect on the events of the day and try some local delicacies such as 'milk cake', and sample local coffee. This is the 2nd image of my 'candescence' series, and is one of the location-based images which I shot because it reflected the feeling of light which I saw in the patients. • I'd like to tell you a little about Joan's story (the beautiful face of my previous image). She had a severe stroke in her hometown, Hopetown, where she was found by hospice workers. Her family are based in Capetown, 7 hours away so had nobody near her to care for her, which is what bought her to Gentlecare. She has progressed there from being bedridden and unable to communicate or move, to learning to speak and move around independently again. She's an inspiration and her eyes hold something indescribable in them which I can only describe as light. • • • #chrono #chronocollective #collective #magazine #documentary #documentryphotography #docphotos #indiepublishing #photography #photojournalism #instagramtakeover #takeover #jasminjelley #candescence #headspace #nature #southafrica #africa #capturinglight #35mm #olympus #om2n (at Kambro Padstal & Akkommodasie)
